Job Summary VECRA, Inc. requires several Braille/Tactile Signing Interpreters to provide in-person, telephonic, and video conference translator and interpreter services at various locations across the Continental United States (CONUS). Interpreters will provide medical interpretation and translation for Deaf and Hard of Hearing patients and their families, following HIPAA laws and maintaining strict confidentiality. Geographic regions where interpreters are needed: Texas, Eastern New Mexico Montana, Wyoming, Eastern Idaho, Eastern Nevada, Utah, and Colorado Oregon, Washington, Idaho, and Alaska Northern California, Nevada, Hawaii Islands, Philippines Islands, Guam, and American Samoa Southern California, Arizona, New Mexico, Southern Colorado Roles and Responsibilities Be familiar with the Unified English Braille System and rules of braille transcribing, and familiar with the Nemeth Code of Braille Mathematics and Scientific Notation. Do not use machine translation. Arrive punctually, present professional demeanor, and provide all necessary equipment and materials. Complete ASL assessment or demonstrate work history and certifications. Complete required documents in a timely manner. Adapt to various work environments. Must be located in and authorized to work in the US (no visa sponsorship). Perform a combination of in-person services, telephonic and video conference services, document translation services, and records management. In-person services: Provide services when ordered, be prompt, reliable, professional in demeanor and dress, arrive 15 minutes early at the facility-designated location. Telephonic and video conference services: Handle multiple participants, be online within minutes to meet VA staff. Document translation: Provide translation from English to required language to facilitate understanding. Records management: Carry a cross‑cut paper shredder; immediately destroy VA sensitive information after telephonic/video conference interpretation. Qualifications and Required Skills 3–4 years of medical interpreting experience. Ability to address obstacles to high‑quality patient care, diffuse stressful situations, and work in a multicultural environment. Knowledge of medical terminology. Well‑developed listening, interpretative, and conciliation skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams. Proficiency in ASL (American Sign Language). Translate medical terminology accurately to ensure understanding of treatments, procedures, medications, dosages, and other instructions. Possess linguistic proficiency in English and the language to be serviced. Meet all qualifications and certifications required by state and/or federal law. Certifications may include State Interpreter Certification, National Center for State Courts; National Board of Certification for Medical Interpreters; National Council on Interpreting in Health Care Certification; Interagency Language Roundtable (ILR); or equivalent. Available on short or no notice, less than 48 hours prior to service. Education High School Diploma or equivalent. Other Work Authorization: Authorized to work in the United States. Schedule: Monday – Friday. Work Hours: 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM Monday through Friday in the time zone of the facility, excluding federal holidays. Shift: Varies; may require 24/7/365 coverage including all Federal Holidays. Onsite Locations (USA): Texas, Eastern New Mexico, Montana, Wyoming, Eastern Idaho, Eastern Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Alaska, Northern California, Nevada, Hawaii Islands, Philippines Islands, Guam, American Samoa, Southern California, Arizona, New Mexico, Southern Colorado. Parking: Only in areas not designated for patient use. Telework or Virtual: Minimal remote work (10%); onsite work required (90%). Req Type: On call. Salary: Commensurate with experience.
