Job Summary The Lead Assistant Teacher supports high-quality instruction and care in both tuition-based and GSRP preschool classrooms. Working closely with the Head Teacher, this role helps implement the HighScope Curriculum, contributes to daily planning and facilitation of learning experiences, and ensures consistent, developmentally appropriate supervision of children. The Lead Assistant actively supports positive behavior guidance, builds warm and professional relationships with families, and helps make children's learning visible through documentation and communication. In addition to classroom responsibilities, this position oversees the After Care Program, ensuring a safe, engaging, and well-managed environment for children at the end of the school day. Ongoing professional development is provided and required to support continuous growth and alignment with program standards. Location Ridge Wood Hours Monday - Friday 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. Hourly Rate Lead Assistant Salary Schedule 2025-26 starting at Step 1: $15.60/hour Start Date August 4-6 for High Scope Training, August 24, 2026 for the 2026-27 School Year Benefits Full time; Benefits include single-person medical / dental benefits, paid holidays & sick time; Tuition Reimbursement available Educational Requirements High School Diploma or equivalent required Child Development Associate Degree (CDA) or equivalent preferred. The equivalency is a minimum of 60 semester hours of college credits with 18 in Early Childhood Education or a related field; or Associate or Bachelor Degree in Early Childhood or related field Experience working with preschool children in a professional setting preferred Qualifications Knowledge of State of Michigan Licensing Rules for Child Care Centers Must obtain 16 Professional Development hours annually Knowledge of NAEYC Accreditation preferred Must obtain CPR/First Aid Certification Must demonstrate a growth mindset and attend ongoing professional development.
