About the Role
The Company is seeking a General Counsel to establish and lead its legal function. The successful candidate will be responsible for the company's collections and creditors' rights practice, including directing recovery strategy on commercial accounts, pursuing legal actions, and managing bankruptcy matters. This role also involves drafting, negotiating, and maintaining core agreements, partnering with HR on employment issues, and providing legal advice on a range of business matters. The General Counsel will be the primary legal resource for the company's ownership and branch leadership, and will lead legal due diligence on acquisitions. Applicants must have a J.D. and be admitted to the Ohio bar (or eligible), with at least 8 years' of legal practice. A strong background in commercial collections, creditors' rights, or commercial litigation is essential, with specific experience in UCC Article 9 enforcement and creditor-side bankruptcy. The role requires strong contract drafting and negotiation skills, as well as the ability to handle employment law matters. Experience in the equipment, construction, distribution, or commercial finance sectors is highly preferred. The ideal candidate will be a self-sufficient, commercially minded operator with a desire to build and own the legal function within the company.
