CMM Programmer – Quality & Inspection | Defense & Commercial Manufacturing
Location: Skokie, IL (On-site) Pay: $30–$40/hour + up to 15 hours optional overtime per week Schedule: 1st Shift | Monday–Friday | 7:00 AM–3:30 PM
Overview
An established manufacturer catering to the defense and commercial sectors seeks to hire a CMM programmer to join a tight-knit quality team. The site operates Brown and Sharpe DCC CMMs using PC-DMIS. Current programs need user-friendly updates, and new ones will be created in response to production needs.
This role is hands-on and fully onsite, covering initial inspections, vendor checks for incoming parts, and complete assembly assessments. As the team grows, this individual will also play a role in training new CMM operators, emphasizing the importance of effective communication and teamwork alongside technical expertise.
Job Responsibilities
- Develop, update, and upkeep CMM programs using PC-DMIS on various Brown and Sharpe DCC units
- Conduct initial inspections for CNC setups and incoming vendor components
- Perform thorough assembly checks, including evaluating complex components with GD&T principles
- Enhance existing programs to improve user experience and overall efficiency
- Assess current CMM equipment and suggest controller upgrades as necessary
- Train new CMM operators and support their growth until they are self-sufficient
- Directly operate CMMs until additional operators are hired and trained
- Resolve programming and inspection issues and communicate findings to quality and production teams
- Maintain precise inspection records and documentation
Requirements
- High school diploma required; AAS degree or CMM programming certification preferred
- 1–2+ years of PC-DMIS programming experience required
- Calypso experience is a plus
- Hands-on experience in metal fabrication, machining, or related manufacturing required
- Defense, military, or aerospace background strongly preferred
- ITAR familiarity preferred
- Skilled in manual metrology tools like micrometers, height gauges, and similar instruments
- Experience inspecting machined parts, castings, and assemblies with GD&T callouts
- Able to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and troubleshoot without heavy direction
- Collaborative mindset with a genuine willingness to train others and keep learning
- US citizen or green card holder required
