Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT)

We are seeking a dedicated Medical Laboratory Technologist to join our team. This position plays a critical role in specimen processing, test performance, and results reporting, along with providing clerical and patient care support services. Candidates should ensure high accuracy, precision, and timeliness while maintaining compliance with departmental and regulatory standards.

Job Summary

The Medical Laboratory Technologist will work across multiple laboratory sections, which may include processing, phlebotomy, and microbiology setups based on departmental needs. Under the supervision of a Laboratory Supervisor, and in their absence, a Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS), the technologist will analyze and interpret test results to identify any abnormalities across various disciplines including blood bank, chemistry, hematology, microbiology, serology, toxicology, and urinalysis.

Education and Experience Requirements

• Associate's Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology: Required
• Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology or equivalent: Preferred
• Two years of experience as a Medical Technologist in a hospital setting: Preferred

Licenses and Certifications

• Current certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or Medical Technologist American Medical Technologists (MT-AMT) certification or equivalent: Required in Oregon
• American Society for Clinical Pathology Certification (ASCP) or American Medical Tech Board MT (MT-AMT): Required

Essential Functions

• Prepare sterile media in plates, jars, or test tubes for bacterial cultures and incubate them under prescribed conditions.
• Prepare solutions, reagents, and stains in accordance with standard laboratory formulas and procedures.
• Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the policies and procedures related to the role of a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT), consistently adhering to these guidelines.
• Perform only those technical duties for which training and orientation has been documented, ensuring ongoing compliance with established protocols.
• Maintain detailed records of tests conducted and report laboratory test results to appropriate personnel. Recognize quality control trends and take necessary action as required.
• Respond effectively to inquiries about age and sex-specific expected, therapeutic, abnormal, and critical values for the departments operated in.
• Follow critical value protocols, notifying the appropriate personnel or medical doctor promptly with required documentation, including the read back of results.
