Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Medical-Surgical/Telemetry Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 18 months of experience required License: Valid Registered Nurse license Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Cardiac rhythm interpretation, chest tube management, peripheral IV starts, wound care, central/PICC line management, NG tube insertion Description: This position requires working in a Medical-Surgical/Telemetry unit. The unit consists of 42 beds and serves various patient types. Common diagnoses include NSTEMI, dysrhythmias, post-cardiac catheterization, appendectomies, colectomies, congestive heart failure, pneumonia, sepsis, and abdominal pain. Nurse-to-patient ratios are typically 1:5-6, dependent on patient acuity. Support staff includes CNAs and a charge nurse. Additional support is available from phlebotomy and an IV team for difficult access. Respiratory therapy is accessible 24/7, along with hospitalists for patient management. Occupational therapy, physical therapy, and speech-language pathology services are available during weekdays. The electronic medical record system used is EPIC, and other technology includes IV pumps and medication dispensing units. Floating to other Med-Surg/Telemetry units may occur, within the scope of practice. Orientation includes initial training and a unit shift. Weekend rotations are every other weekend, with specific holiday requirements. Approval for requested time off is permitted for up to 7 days. Scrub color is navy blue. No artificial fingernails or extensions are allowed during direct patient care. Natural nail tips should be kept to less than ¼ inch in length.
