Food Service Supervisor

Job Description The Food & Nutrition Supervisor at North Mississippi Health Services is responsible for overseeing the activities and performance of Food & Nutrition Services, especially Production & Utility workers, to ensure efficient and high-quality food services. This role collaborates with the Administrator of Food and Nutrition Services and engages area knowledge alongside excellent organizational and communication skills to recruit, manage and develop personnel, plan department activities, monitor food quality, pursue ongoing performance and service improvement, assist in department goal and budget development, and interface effectively with patients and other stakeholders. As a supervisor, this role guides a team of employees to ensure efficient task completion, promoting teamwork and effective coordination. Job Functions Plan, direct, coordinate, evaluate, and document quality Food and Nutrition Services activities in accordance with hospital policies and legal and regulatory accrediting bodies. Manage and oversee responsibilities of the Food and Nutrition Department to ensure accurate, timely, cost-effective, professional, and confidential operations. Inspect the quality, quantity, temperature, and appearance of food before it is served and ensure correct procedures are followed in preparing and cooking food items. Implement evaluation systems to monitor services provided by the Food and Nutrition Department such as nutritional adequacy, consumer acceptance, new food products, equipment and supplies, management systems, sanitation systems, outside surveys, and educational methodology and tools. Conduct personalized patient interviews using nutritional literature for diet teaching and writing. Supervise Production and Utility workers. Motivate and inspire Food and Nutrition Staff. Promote and enforce departmental compliance with safety and infection control standards. Recruit, orient, train, counsel, and schedule personnel. Prepare and monitor departmental goals, budget, and performance improvement activities. Perform other duties as assigned while demonstrating willingness, ability, and team spirit to provide optimal customer satisfaction. Assist with orientation and in‑services, attend required educational programs, performance improvement activities, and other training sessions. Assist in recruiting, orienting, evaluating, scheduling, coaching, and implementing training programs for subordinates to foster competent, committed departmental employees. Qualifications Education High School Diploma or GED required. GED or higher preferred (if applicable). Licenses and Certifications None required. Preferred certifications: None specified. Work Experience Less than 1 year previous experience in food service (preferred). 1–3 years previous supervisory experience (preferred). Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Good communication skills to supervise and communicate with intra‑ and inter‑departmental employees, patients and families, physicians, and the public. Positive, caring attitude toward staff and public. Ability to perform responsibilities in a timely, efficient, cost‑effective, confidential, and professional manner in alignment with the hospital’s mission and vision.
