Acute Care Emergency Surgery Advanced Practice Provider, Day position

Job Requirements Capital Region Health is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Acute Care Emergency Surgery (ACES) Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) to join our growing surgical services team in Largo, Maryland. This full‑time day position offers an exciting opportunity to practice in a dynamic environment providing care for trauma, acute care surgery, and critically ill surgical patients. As part of our multidisciplinary team, you will work alongside surgeons, intensivists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to deliver comprehensive, patient‑centered care. In addition to supporting the ACES service, providers may assist with urology, plastic surgery, vascular surgery, and thoracic surgery services as needed. Comprehensive training will be provided to ensure competency across all aspects of the ACES team, with opportunities for cross‑training and coverage across additional APP service lines. Position Highlights Primarily scheduled for 11‑hour day shifts Manage trauma and acute care surgery patients across the continuum of care Opportunity to perform advanced bedside procedures First assist in the operating room Cross‑training opportunities with additional surgical specialties Collaborative, physician‑led environment Strong commitment to professional growth, mentorship, and leadership development Key Responsibilities Provide diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive healthcare services to critically ill and surgical patients Obtain comprehensive patient histories and perform physical examinations Conduct daily rounds and coordinate multidisciplinary patient care Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic testing and imaging studies Formulate diagnoses and implement treatment plans Manage trauma and acute surgical patients throughout hospitalization Communicate effectively with attending physicians, consulting services, nursing staff, patients, and families Perform advanced procedures within approved privileges, including central venous catheter placement, chest tube insertion, and additional trauma and surgical procedures as credentialed Provide patient and family education regarding treatment plans and recovery expectations First assist in the operating room Identify and communicate patient safety concerns and process improvement opportunities Support quality improvement initiatives and organizational patient safety goals Essential Skills and Competencies Exceptional verbal and written communication skills Strong clinical judgment and critical thinking abilities Ability to prioritize and manage multiple complex patients simultaneously Confidence working independently while collaborating effectively with multidisciplinary teams Excellence in crisis management and rapid decision‑making Strong organizational skills and attention to detail Commitment to quality improvement and patient safety Ability to build effective working relationships across departments Professionalism, accountability, and dedication to compassionate patient care Leadership and Development Participate in APP Council meetings and service‑line specific meetings Attend organizational educational programs and professional development activities Engage in leadership opportunities, committee participation, and mentorship initiatives Support the education and training of APP colleagues, students, residents, and other learners Participate in ongoing APP educational programs and specialty training opportunities Commitment to Quality and Patient Safety Support High Reliability Organization principles Promote patient safety and zero‑harm initiatives Contribute to a culture of professionalism, teamwork, and mutual respect Consistently follow organizational policies, procedures, and clinical standards Identify and report potential risks related to processes, procedures, and patient care Maintain procedure complication rates below national benchmarks Deliver exceptional, evidence‑based patient care Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree and graduation from an ARC‑PA accredited Physician Assistant program with current NCCPA certification and Maryland licensure Current certification and licensure to practice as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner in Maryland Additional Requirements Credentialing through the University of Maryland Capital Region Health Medical Staff Office Current BLS and ACLS certifications ATLS certification required (may be obtained after hire) Participation in approved continuing medical education programs Preferred Minimum of one year of surgical, trauma, emergency medicine, critical care, or acute care experience Continuing Education Requirements Complete a minimum of 50 Category I CME hours every two years Complete 32 hours of trauma‑related CME Maintain competency in trauma, acute care surgery, and related surgical subspecialties Adhere to Maryland Board of Physicians or Maryland Board of Nursing standards and approved procedural protocols Compensation Salary is competitive and commensurate with clinical experience.
