Senior Metadata Analyst-local to Austin

Senior Metadata Analyst Location: Austin, TX – must reside within 50 miles of downtown for a 100% onsite position. Qualified candidates must have a valid LinkedIn profile with a profile picture and current location. Prior State of Texas experience is required. Responsibilities The role serves as a Senior Metadata Ingestion Analyst and serves as a liaison between technical IT and non‑technical program staff across the Health and Human Services (HHS) departments and agencies. Lead collaboration with program areas, project sponsors, and system SMEs to integrate EIM cataloging and lineage systems with source IT systems. Automate regular collection and updates to agency metadata for high‑value data assets. Explain technical findings and data limitations in simple, non‑technical language to end users and leadership. Strategic Liaison and Translation Act as a bridge between IT data systems and operational users, facilitating glossary definitions for agency reporting and strategic decision‑making. Data Reporting and Visualization Extract, integrate, and analyze metadata from internal and external sources to support HHS program needs. Collaborate with end‑users and performance analysts or IT leaders to create visualizations and reports. Validate AI–generated outputs, mitigating hallucinations and ensuring accuracy. Ensure adherence to agency reporting standards, data governance, and compliance regulations. Data Literacy and Training Champion data glossary literacy by delivering training sessions for non‑technical staff. Develop documentation and tutorials for using glossary tools. Promote a data‑driven culture across the organization. Collaboration and Problem Solving Work with data engineering, IT, and program teams to troubleshoot metadata issues, address inconsistencies, and devise mitigation strategies. Guide program staff on interpreting data trends and answering complex data questions. Stay current on AI and metadata analysis tools to improve glossaries and reporting. AI Prompting and Data Synthesis Develop effective AI prompts and query strategies for accurate metadata synthesis. Assist non‑technical users in crafting precise prompts to obtain needed glossary data. Create a library of standardized prompts and templates for common reporting needs. Minimum Requirements 8+ years of experience gathering business requirements and translating complex metadata acquisitions into actionable access paths for data glossaries. 8+ years of experience explaining technical findings and data limitations to end users and leadership. 8+ years in a complex data analysis, senior business/systems analyst, or data liaison role. Proficient in SQL for data extraction, manipulation, and enrichment. Experience collaborating with end‑users, performance analysts, or IT leaders to create and validate glossaries for analytics development and data lineage analysis. Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills. Preferred Qualifications 5+ years of experience with Business Intelligence/Data Warehouse. 5+ years acting as the primary point of contact for program staff with metadata/glossary needs for analytics projects. 5+ years working in a health and human services or similarly regulated environment. 5+ years with data governance and data quality principles. 2+ years with data glossary tools such as Informatica EDC or Axon Data Governance. 2+ years championing data literacy across the organization. 1+ year training and mentoring staff with varying levels of data literacy.
