The Registered Nurse in the Operating Room (OR) plays a crucial role in ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality perioperative care. Working within a medium-sized team of 4-7 nurses and reporting to the OR Nurse Manager, this nurse supports surgical teams by preparing patients, maintaining sterile environments, assisting during procedures, and coordinating postoperative care. The role requires proficiency with electronic medical records systems and a strong commitment to patient safety and teamwork.

13 Week Contract with the option to extend

Hours: Days: (06:30 - 15:00) - 10 hr days could be a possibility.

Weekends: Yes every 3rd or 4th weekend depending on rotation and time off requests

Special requirements :

• 2 room OR Specialties include OBGYN, Ortho, GI/GS, ENT, Pain, Dental
• Areas in the surgery department Pre/Post op, Circulating, PACU, Endo
• Charting - Epic

 

Responsibilities

• Prepare patients for surgical procedures following established protocols
• Monitor patient status intraoperatively to promptly identify changes
• Maintain a sterile field throughout all surgical phases
• Assist surgeons and surgical team with instrumentation and procedural support
• Set up and verify surgical equipment prior to procedures
• Administer medications according to physician orders and safety guidelines
• Provide postoperative care and monitor patient recovery
• Document patient care and surgical events accurately in EMR systems
• Coordinate effectively with team members to ensure smooth workflow
• Respond immediately to intraoperative emergencies
• Deliver comprehensive perioperative nursing care addressing all patient needs

 

Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience in perioperative nursing
• Registered Nurse (RN) license
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Advanced certifications such as ACLS, NIHSS, PALS
• Strong skills in patient care, intraoperative monitoring, and sterile technique
• Proficiency in medication administration and surgical instrumentation
• Excellent communication, critical thinking, and teamwork abilities
