We're committed to quality, innovation, and providing a clean, well-organized workplace where skilled machinists can thrive.Position OverviewThe Walter CNC Set-Up Operator is responsible for setting up, proving out, operating, and performing program adjustments on Walter CNC tool & cutter grinding machines to produce precision round cutting tools. This role requires strong technical aptitude, attention to detail, and hands-on experience grinding carbide and/or HSS tools to print.Key ResponsibilitiesSet up and operate Walter CNC tool & cutter grinders (e.g., Helitronic series) for round tool productionRead and interpret blueprints, tool drawings, and engineering specificationsLoad programs, make offsets, and perform minor edits to ensure tool geometry accuracyPerform first-piece inspection and in-process checks using appropriate measuring equipment (micrometers, calipers, indicators, optical equipment, etc.)Monitor machine performance and tool quality, making necessary adjustmentsMaintain a clean and organized work area following 5S principlesTroubleshoot machine issues and work with maintenance/engineering as neededComplete production paperwork and maintain accurate recordsFollow all safety procedures and hazard reporting and company quality standardsQualificationsRequired: Experience setting up and operating Walter CNC tool & cutter grinding machinesStrong understanding of round tool geometry (end mills, drills, step tools, etc.)Ability to read technical drawings and GD&TProficiency using precision measurement toolsMechanical aptitude and problem-solving skillsAbility to work independently and in a team environmentPreferred: Experience with Walter/HMC software and/or Siemens control interfacesBackground in manufacturing carbide toolsBasic understanding of G-codePrevious experience in a high-mix, low-volume tool grinding environmentPhysical RequirementsAbility to stand for extended periodsAbility to lift up to 40 lbs. occasionallyManual dexterity for handling small precision partsWhat We OfferCompetitive pay based on experienceHealth, dental, and vision benefitsPaid time off and holidaysGender Neutral Paid Parental Leave – 14 weeks at 90% of wageRetirement plan options – 5% employer contribution plus a 3% employer match on 6% employee contributionOpportunities for skill development and internal advancementSupportive team environmentSeco Tools, a subsidy of Sandvik is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer.
