We are currently seeking someone who is willing to work in Central, FL.General Description:The Vice President of Operations position will effectively steer the Commercial Construction Business Units towards success, ensuring that all Business Units remain competitive while enhancing profitable growth, driving unwavering support to our people and providing efficient and responsive solutions to the needs of all or clients through operational excellence.The Vice President of Operations will cultivate a culture of collaboration and empowerment, ensuring that every team member feels valued and motivated to contribute their best. By leveraging innovative practices and advanced technologies this position will strive for unparalleled operational efficiency. This position will be heavily focused on continuous improvement in all areas of the Operational side of our business. Participate in, support and drive the outcome of our strategic plan. Moreover, the Vice President of Operations will instill the commitment to our people, operational excellence and sustainable profitable growth to drive every commercial project.Responsibilities:Organizational StructureReports to Executive Vice President of Operations.Coordinates and collaborates with Corporate Services Department Directors.Operational ResponsibilitiesRun key business unit meetings and ensure metrics are set and met, and processes followed such as project forecast meetings and audits.Assist in developing strategic and tactical goals; drive goals to completion (create timelines, assign owners, monitor progress, anticipate and remove obstacles, contribute to the success, leverage strengths, address performance concerns, celebrate success).Create, contribute to, and manage data and analytic processes.Contribute to creation of meaningful metrics and drive accountability, consequences, and celebrations.Understand and support total customer experience, resolve problem, drive continuous improvement.Assist in problem resolution, driving consistency and ensuring adherence to company-wide procedures and processes.Remove obstacles and barriers that hinder operations.Act as a sounding board, mentor, teacher and confidant in decision-making and assist in the significant opportunity assessment and risk management decisions.Ensure that the organization is focused on learning, improving and reinforcing what success looks like when complications exist.Be highly visible and approachable as demonstrated by resolving problems and contributing to success both for the business unit and the Company.Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field.Ten (10) to fifteen (15) years of experience in an Operations Manager or comparable leadership role within a construction company generating $1 billion or more in annual revenue.Proven experience leading operational leaders and multidisciplinary teams within the construction industry.Strong understanding of construction operations, industry practices, market dynamics, and business processes.Demonstrated ability to drive profitable organizational growth through strategic planning, operational efficiency, and effective leadership.Strong customer-focused approach with the ability to build and maintain positive client relationships.Exceptional strategic and tactical thinking skills with the ability to anticipate challenges, analyze complex information, and implement effective solutions.Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills with the ability to make informed decisions in fast-paced environments.Demonstrated ability to challenge existing processes, identify opportunities for improvement, and develop effective business strategies.Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal, and presentation skills with the ability to communicate effectively with executive leadership, employees, clients, and stakeholders.Strong decision-making and conflict resolution skills with the ability to navigate challenging situations professionally and effectively.Proven ability to develop, implement, and improve operational processes, business procedures, and organizational systems.Strong organizational, planning, and time management skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet critical deadlines.Ability to interpret business data, financial information, and operational metrics to support strategic decision-making.Strong understanding of construction processes, technologies, methodologies, and operational best practices.Demonstrated ability to adapt to organizational changes and lead teams through evolving business needs.Strong leadership, coaching, and mentoring skills with the ability to motivate employees and develop future leaders.Ability to foster an inclusive, collaborative, and high-performing team environment while maintaining accountability and operational excellence.Strong interpersonal skills, emotional intelligence, and resilience, with the ability to provide constructive feedback and guide teams through challenges.Proficiency in technology, business software, and digital tools to support data-driven decisions and operational improvements.Ability to work effectively in both professional office environments and active construction job sites.Ability to perform periodic site visits involving walking, standing, and navigating uneven terrain.Ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain performance in fast-paced, deadline-driven construction environments.Availability to work a full-time, exempt schedule during standard business hours, with flexibility for extended hours based on project and operational demands.Willingness to travel to project sites within assigned regions as business needs require.Equal Opportunity Employer/Veterans/DisabilityWharton-Smith provides equal opportunity to qualified disabled veterans, Pre-JVA special disabled veterans and individuals with disabilities to online application systems by making reasonable accommodation to ensure equal access for submitting to job openings.
