About the Position

Job Title: Emergency Department Registered Nurse Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Emergency Duration: Contract Shift: Full-Time Day/Night Variable Shift (3x12s scheduled as needed) Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years as a Registered Nurse, with at least 1 year in an Emergency Department environment License: Active Registered Nurse Licensure Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, Stroke Certification (must be AHA or RQI) Must-Have: Two years acute hospital experience as a Registered Nurse and one year Emergency Department experience Description: The Emergency Department Registered Nurse applies nursing theory, technical skills, and communication skills to deliver high-quality compassionate care to patients and families. The ED RN assesses patient needs, identifies urgent or emergent care priorities, and collaboratively provides direct care. The RN applies appropriate interventions and evaluates patient progress. The ED RN demonstrates skill in the use of various invasive and non-invasive procedures and treatments. The nurse utilizes principles of relationship-based care to alleviate anxiety and address pain, discomfort, and safety. The ED RN assesses physiological, psychosocial, emotional, and cultural needs of patients of all age groups. The nurse connects with patients and families during triage and identifies initial management priorities based on triage standards. The ED RN establishes rapport with patients and families, addresses comfort needs, and provides frequent updates. The nurse conducts primary assessments of critical needs and documents deviations from norms. The ED RN identifies necessary steps and interventions required for all age groups within acceptable time frames. Through direct observation, patient/family interviews, and data, the nurse conducts secondary assessments. The ED RN assesses contributing factors and health history preceding the emergent health event. The nurse reassesses patients to identify responses to treatment and responds appropriately. The ED RN encourages mutual trust and cooperation among team members to achieve optimal patient outcomes. The nurse teaches others as appropriate and delegates tasks aligned with individual competencies. The ED RN understands personal responsibility to ensure compliance with infection prevention strategies. The nurse prepares patients and families for diagnostic procedures and treatments. The ED RN makes appropriate referrals for post-emergency care and teaches ongoing care needs for home recovery. The nurse structures educational sessions based on patient/family learning styles and evaluates understanding. The ED RN seeks to understand what is most important to each patient and family. The nurse emphasizes the importance of creating a healing environment as a key element of nursing practice. The ED RN keeps patients and significant others informed throughout their visit and anticipates their needs. The nurse maintains awareness of patient conditions and updates communication boards throughout the emergency department stay.
