Wage Range that the Company Expects to Pay: $21.00 - $23.15 per hour

SUMMARY

Under the direct supervision of the Health Center Manager, the Chiropractic Assistant will work closely with the Chiropractic Provider to support all aspects of their practice. The Chiropractic Assistant will follow the protocols of the Community Health Centers of the Central Coast, Inc. (CHC), by greeting patients in a professional and courteous manner, managing provider schedules to ensure access and efficiency, assisting the provider in the exam room including translation and communication of chiropractic services, assisting patients through the registration process, and receiving payments for rendered services while following specific billing procedures.

Chiropractic providers see their patients on a frequent basis. It is important that the Chiropractic Assistant builds and maintains a positive working relationship with chiropractic patients in order to effectively support the chiropractic provider’s practice.

It is the primary purpose of CHC to provide the highest quality of total care possible to the patient population it serves. Such a level of quality depends ultimately on the staff’s desire and ability to work together, individually, and as a team. The employee is expected to be professional, punctual, maintain regular attendance, cooperative, organized, and enthusiastic at all times.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Answers telephone promptly with a courteous and professional manner.
• Works closely with the chiropractic provider to review and manage patient schedules to anticipate for missed opportunities, scheduling errors, registration form updates, insurance eligibility, and co-payments.
• Assists the provider in the exam room as needed, including translation and communicating chiropractic services.
• Assists with pre-visit planning including patient screenings and other chiropractic-specific workflows.
• Schedules patients per protocol and refers triage calls to nursing staff.
• Checks patients in-and-out through the practice management system and verifies information.
• Performs cashiering duties and collects co-payments, payments, and outstanding balances.
• Assists patients with the completion of appropriate forms and reviews for accuracy and completeness.
• Assists the chiropractic provider in reporting patient encounters on a monthly basis.
• Follows specific billing protocols to complete medi reservations for chiropractic visits
• Accurately enters and updates demographic and payer data in practice management system.
• Verification of coverage and payer eligibility, which may include programs, private insurances, Medi-Cal, and Sliding Fee.
• Informs patients about all available services and programs.
• Observes for patients in distress and promptly reports to the Chiropractic Provider or available nursing staff in the clinic.
• Maintains inventory of paperwork and ensures most up to date form is being used.
• Issues visitor passes when required.
• Handles high volume of patients and internal/externals customers, and handle frequent changes, delay or unexpected events.
• Demonstrates and maintains knowledge of practice management system, payers, and Standard Work.
• Demonstrates adherence to and observes all safety policies and procedures, inclusive of infection control rules and regulations.
• Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served (infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults or geriatrics).
• Demonstrates knowledge of domestic violence, child and dependent abuse protocols.
• Demonstrates culturally sensitivity and competence with patients.
• Maintains and adheres to HIPAA, employee confidentiality, and privileged communications (patient, employee, and corporation).

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or GED equivalent required. Previous experience working in a customer service position, preferably in a medical setting. Knowledge of medical terminology is desirable.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Bilingual in Spanish and English is preferred, but not required. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentages.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply sound judgment in understanding to carry out instructions in written or oral form. Ability to make appropriate job decisions following standard office policies and past precedents. As the solitary assistant to the chiropractic provider, this position requires the ability to prioritize tasks according to urgency and the ability to work in an environment with frequent interruptions.

COMPUTER SKILLS

Experience with word processing, spreadsheets, email, and keyboarding required. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Suites. Working knowledge of EHR is preferred.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Possession of current, valid, unrestricted California Driver's License (Class C) required.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Required to pass a criminal history background check and drug screen upon hire. Annual health examination; annual Tuberculosis skin test clearance or chest x-ray; proof of immunity to MMR, Varicella, and Hepatitis B; proof of Tdap vaccine; during current flu season, must provide proof of influenza vaccine or a signed declination form. If declined, a flu mask is mandatory during flu season. Health screening requirements are subject to change based on CDC recommendations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Must be able to work in a clinical setting and work in a fast-paced environment.

Must be willing to have a flexible work schedule that may include evenings/weekends, and travel as needed.
