Staff Relations Manager

Overview Amgen’s mission is to serve patients living with serious illnesses. This role is part of the Human Resources team, working to support employees, protect company values, and ensure compliance with HR policies. Responsibilities Provide expert employee relations guidance and support to managers and staff in the Operations function. Partner with regional HR Leaders, Business Managers, Compliance, Legal, and other HR Centers of Excellence to investigate potential policy violations, advise on coaching, performance and behavior management, discipline, involuntary terminations, and workplace accommodations. Deliver practical and legally appropriate ER guidance on performance management, disciplinary action, and workplace conflicts to HR partners and business leaders. Participate in termination discussions and corrective actions with staff and leaders as needed. Conduct and document thorough, impartial, and timely HR investigations while maintaining confidentiality and objectivity. Determine findings of facts and any violations of Amgen policies and prepare clear, concise investigation summaries. Partner with Occupational Health, Benefits, staff, and managers to analyze and respond to reasonable accommodation requests, leaves of absence, and return‑to‑work situations. Partner with local HR Business Partners and the broader Staff Relations team to ensure nuanced and compliant ER practices. Track and update cases in the company’s case‑management system. Assist the Operations Staff Relations Lead in implementing process improvements, training, and ER best practices. Collaborate with Compliance, Legal, and Learning & Development teams to deliver training on HR policies, investigations, and professional workplace behaviors. Location: Filming on site at a manufacturing facility in Rhode Island, Cambridge (North Carolina), or Ohio. The position requires a hybrid schedule with a minimum on‑site presence of three days per week. Qualifications Basic qualification: Doctorate degree or Master’s degree with at least 2 years Staff Relations experience; Bachelor’s degree with at least 4 years; Associate’s degree with at least 8 years; or High School diploma/GED with at least 10 years. Strong HR background with 4+ years in Employee Relations. Experience advising on performance management, discipline, and involuntary terminations. Knowledge of employment laws and ER practices. Experience conducting internal HR investigations. Ability to learn and fairly apply company policy, investigation procedures, and regulatory guidelines. Strong judgment, discretion, and professionalism in handling complex and confidential matters. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Teams, Workday, and ER case‑management systems. Flexible working hours to accommodate manufacturing shifts. Ability to work onsite at one of the manufacturing facilities in Rhode Island, Cambridge (North Carolina), or Ohio.
