UTILITY LOCATE TECHNICIAN

Utility Locate Technician

Recruitment is in the Public Works Department. The position is located at 11575 Maxwell Road, Alpharetta, GA.

Minimum Qualifications: High School diploma or GED required. Associates degree preferred; supplemented by two years experience locating underground utilities, working outdoors in all types of weather conditions and confined spaces; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

Specific License or Certification Required: Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver's license.

Specific Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities: Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in performance of the essential functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all county or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position.

Examination: The examination will consist of an evaluation of education and experience, accomplished by analysis of the application. Purpose of Classification:

The purpose of this classification is to perform operational duties related to locating water and sewer mains, services, and appurtenances utilizing electronic locating equipment, blueprints, system maps, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Global Positioning System (GPS) data, including assisting work crews in repairing and flushing water distribution systems and controlling traffic.

Essential Functions:

Utilizes electronic locating equipment, blueprints, system maps, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Global Positioning System (GPS) data to locate water and sewer mains, services, and appurtenances.

Assists the Engineering Division with GIS and GPS data acquisition.

Accesses the Utility Protection Center (UPC) to obtain locate tickets as required.

Provides assistance to utility crews in controlling traffic, repairing and flushing water distribution systems, and resolving system locate problems.

Reads and interprets locate tickets to determine the location area for underground utilities.

Completes locate request paperwork as required.

Additional Functions:
