Facilities Operation Specialist

This position reports directly to the Facilities Operations Coordinator. Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision. Must be able to communicate and work effectively with a variety of groups, including faculty, students, library staff, campus partners, including NIU Police and the general public. This position will occasionally supervise student employees. Libraries Facilities Operations serves an important role in the University Libraries. The unit monitors and addresses all facilities-related matters in the libraries (including Founders Memorial Library, Music Library, and Faraday Library). In addition, the unit manages the opening and closing during days, evenings, and weekends; works with other library departments to facilitate appropriate stewardship of library spaces and resources; and helps to maintain a safe and secure environment for library patrons. Responsible for library opening and closing procedures; monitors physical conditions of the library, as well as patron activities; enforces state, university, and library rules, regulations, and policies pertaining to the use of the library; and notifying appropriate staff members of emergency situations (illness, fire, maintenance problems) or illegal activities (theft, mutilation, smoking) Assists in and facilitates planning, scheduling, directing and coordinating the use of library facilities; processes requests for approved events such as lobby tabling events, exhibits, lectures & performances, and room reservations for internal and external constituents; coordinates and disseminates reservation information, as needed Assists the Facilities Operations Coordinator in requesting and monitoring work orders for repair and maintenance of library property; in that capacity, keeps records or maintains awareness of work order instructions for effective communication with workers; assists with scheduling projects regarding library facilities and maintenance Facilitates communication with, and serves as a liaison to, internal library partners (such as Einstein’s Bagels, OneCard Office, DoIT/TSD and other Learning Commons partners) as well to campus police, building services staff, and student judicial office; participates in library and university meetings and workshops related to operations and security Provides guidance and direction to student workers on duty during hours of operation Monitors all secure areas of library to assure that areas are protected and appropriate doors are locked Maintains a record of incidents in the library, completes related reports, and notifies appropriate superiors Performs basic circulation activities (including check out) Oversees the lost and found operation Assists patrons, as needed Participates in the development of guidelines, procedures, and policies Oversees announcements over the public-address system, emergency paging and closing of service areas and the library Compiles statistics and reports related to gate counts and other building-use data #J-18808-Ljbffr Alsip-Merrionette Park Public Library District
