Assistant Director of Human Resources

SALARY: Appropriate placement on Alabama Community College System Board of Trustees Salary Schedule E2, Grade 02 Salary Range $52,707-$70,896 (12 months, Non-Exempt) Work Hours 8:00 am - 5:30 pm Monday - Thursday and 8:00 am - 12:00 pm Friday The Assistant Director of Human Resources supports the Human Resources Director in the administration and coordination of the College's Human Resources functions. The position assists with recruitment and employment, employee relations, personnel records, benefits administration, leave administration, performance management, compliance, employee onboarding, policy implementation, and other Human Resources activities. The Assistant Director works collaboratively with faculty, staff, administrators, applicants, and external agencies and provides professional assistance regarding Human Resources policies, procedures, and employment-related matters. The Assistant Director shall perform duties in accordance with the policies and procedures of the Alabama Community College System (ACCS) Board of Trustees, applicable federal and state laws and regulations, and the Drake State Community & Technical College Faculty and Staff Personnel Handbook. The Assistant Director of Human Resources shall assist in planning, organizing, and controlling activities of the Human Resources Department. The Assistant Director of Human Resources will adhere to the policies as specified by the Alabama Community College System Board of Trustees, Federal and State regulations, and the Drake State Community & Technical College Faculty and Staff: Assist the Director of Human Resources in developing department goals, objectives, and systems. Help maintain accurate information on all active faculty, administrative/staff personnel and ensure the security and confidentiality of all personnel files and documents Work closely with Payroll personnel to ensure that all procedures relevant to personnel are maintained Prepare and distribute professional service contracts Assist in preparing and distributing letters of appointments on all administrative/staff, faculty, and adjunct personnel Assist in Prepare and gathering data for the budget for the Human Resources Office Assist the Director of Human Resources in conducting exit interviews, employee relations, counseling, and new employee orientation Maintain all search files according to the ACCS Uniform Guidelines and Records Disposition Guide Ensure that the employment procedures follow the policies and guidelines set by ACCS Assist in the Coordination of the employment process by: Responding to employment inquiries by phone or written correspondence. Posting employment information on the College’s website, the Internet, and job boards Assist with creating and distributing job announcements Preparing advertisements for positions and advertising appropriately Receiving and filing applications for job openings Verifying references, past employment, and credentials of applicants Notifying applicants of the status of their application Meeting with the committee chairperson to review the process and review search policies and guidelines Setting up interviews Assist in Orientations of new employees Responsible for maintaining the College’s organization chart. Participate in and represent the College in the ACCS Human Resources association and the local community Assist in the Coordination and monitoring of the performance evaluation process and revise as necessary Assist in benefits administration for the college Assist the Director of Human Resources in managing the FMLA process to ensure compliance Show evidence of maintaining and expanding professional competence through activities such as continuing or in-service education, membership in professional organizations, and participation in related community activities Assist the Director in preparing and maintaining the handbook on policies and procedures Assist the Director in establishing and maintaining department records and reports Participate in administrative staff meetings and attends other annual meetings and seminars Assist the Director of Human Resources in maintaining the College’s organization chart Assist in the updating and distribution of the College directory Job description may be modified or altered at any time by management. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Bachelors’ Degree in Human Resources Management or a related field from a regionally accredited institution A minimum of three (3) years of full-time documented experience working in Human Resources Demonstrated ability to interpret, synthesize, and apply policies and procedures Experience in successful project management and implementation Excellent computer skills Effective communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Documented Banner 9 experience Documented experience in Post-secondary’s Human Resources policies and procedures Documented NEOED experience DESIRED PROFILE Preference will be given to candidates who can demonstrate through their experiences and accomplishments: Understanding of and a commitment to the philosophy and mission of a community and technical college Sensitivity and commitment to cultural diversity Ability to handle multiple tasks and various situations in a calm and professional manner Ability to work well under pressure and deadlines Commitment to teaching and learning, where recent high school graduates, adult students, and non-traditional students are involved Background Check Requirement In accordance with Alabama Community College System Policy and guidelines, the applicant chosen for employment will be required to sign a consent form and agree to a criminal background check.
