Critical Care RN - SUNY Upstate Medical University - Syracuse, NY Position Summary: SUNY Upstate Medical University is seeking experienced Critical Care Registered Nurses (RN) to support Adult ICU units on a day shift schedule. Nurses will be assigned to units based on their clinical experience and must be comfortable working in a high-acuity, fast-paced critical care environment. The RN will be responsible for delivering comprehensive patient care, performing advanced nursing assessments, and executing critical care interventions with minimal orientation and supervision. This role requires strong clinical judgment, the ability to manage complex patient conditions, and collaboration with interdisciplinary care teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes. Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in acute care nursing skills and be capable of managing critically ill patients in a Level 1 or Level 2 trauma setting. The ability to work independently, maintain clinical accuracy, and adapt to ICU workflow demands is essential. Key Responsibilities: Provide high-level nursing care to critically ill patients in Adult ICU settings Perform comprehensive patient assessments and implement appropriate care plans Administer medications, monitor patient conditions, and respond to critical changes Utilize EPIC Electronic Medical Records (EMR) for documentation and patient management Collaborate with physicians, specialists, and care teams to coordinate treatment plans Operate effectively in a Level 1 or Level 2 trauma environment Deliver patient care independently with minimal supervision Maintain adherence to hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory standards Ensure accurate and timely documentation of all patient interactions Qualifications: Current New York State Registered Nurse (RN) license BLS certification (must be current or eligible for recertification) Minimum 1.5 years of recent experience (within the last 2 years) in an acute care facility of similar size and level Prior experience in ICU / Critical Care settings required Trauma experience (Level 1 or Level 2) strongly preferred Experience with EPIC EMR system preferred Travelers must have experience in equal or larger hospitals or trauma centers Strong interpersonal, communication, and clinical assessment skills Must not have had any professional license suspension or investigation Must not have been named in professional liability claims Additional Requirements: Must be legally authorized to work in the United States Successful completion of pre-employment health clearance Subject to drug screening and criminal background check Why This Role Matters: This role is critical in supporting SUNY Upstate’s Adult ICU operations, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, life‑saving patient care in a complex acute care environment.
