Treasurer's Office - IT Support Specialist

Job Description

The Arlington County Treasurer's Office is seeking an IT Support Specialist to report to the Deputy Treasurer for Technology as part of the Technology Unit.

As an elected official, the Arlington County Treasurer is accountable to the citizens of Arlington County. The Technology Unit of the Treasurer's Office is a small team tasked with supporting the office in pursuit of future efficiencies, cost savings, and innovations. The team is responsible for providing analysis and reporting, beyond what vendor-supplied systems can deliver; business unit support in testing and requirements gathering, and end-user support for software and hardware matters. The Technology Unit is also the primary interface between the Treasurer's Office and the County's IT department.

Responsibilities

Major Job Duties:
  • Providing Tier 1 support for the Treasurer's Office with on-site installation, implementation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of desktops, printers, iPads, iPhones, as well as associated peripherals and software;
  • Creating and maintaining documentation describing Treasurer's Office business processes;
  • Researching new technology solutions for the Treasurer's Office;
  • Serving as liaison to Department of Technology Services support staff;
  • Managing IT assets and inventory;
  • Coordinating the acquisition, installation, and maintenance of new hardware and software licenses;
  • Providing the highest level of customer service and other technology support to the Treasurer's Office staff and constituents; and
  • Working on special projects as required.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills, flexibility, coachability, self-motivation, time-management skills, and the ability to remain professional and calm in a fast-paced, high-volume customer service environment. They will also be able to develop creative and strategic approaches towards problems as well as be an advocate for customer needs. This position requires the ability to multitask and alternate between in-person technology support duties and back-office desk duties as needed.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems Management, Mathematics, or related field; and
  • Some experience in application training or user support, and operating or working with business applications.
Substitution(s): Additional qualifying experience may substitute for the education requirement on a year for year basis.

Desirable Qualifications: Preference may be given to applicants with experience in one or more of the following:
  • Knowledge of Kanban or other agile methodologies;
  • Developing strong customer relationships and managing customer expectations;
  • Python and Excel, or similar tools, to perform data analysis; and/or
  • Technical troubleshooting.

Special Requirements

Background Check: A pre-employment criminal records check will be conducted. Additional Information

Work hours: 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. This is not a remote opportunity. Employees are expected to be in the office full-time.


The pay range listed above is effective July 1, 2026.

All positions within the Treasurer's Office are Non-Bargaining (NB).

The official title of this position is: IT Support Specialist.
