Safety Specialist

Job Title: Safety Specialist Location: San Jose, CA (on site) Support a manufacturing site by implementing safety initiatives identified through recent safety audit and gap analysis. Focus on closing safety gaps, developing and enhancing safety training and SOPs, promoting a culture of behavioral‑based safety. Five days per week, 2–3 month contract with potential transition to permanent role. Responsibilities Implement action items from recent safety audit and gap analysis to close safety gaps across the manufacturing facility. Develop, update, and maintain safety training programs and SOPs in collaboration with subject matter experts. Provide practical safety solutions tailored to a manufacturing environment, ensuring alignment with regulatory and internal standards. Promote and reinforce behavioral‑based safety practices to reduce incidents and encourage safe work habits. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of safety programs and recommend improvements as needed. Support site leadership and teams with safety guidance, coaching, and best practices while working with limited onsite supervision. Prepare and maintain safety documentation, reports, and presentations using MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Assist in ensuring compliance with applicable safety regulations and standards, including relevant OSHA and ISO requirements where applicable. Participate in safety meetings, trainings, and site activities to reinforce a strong safety culture. Work flexible hours, including 1–10 hours of overtime per week as needed. Essential Skills Minimum 5 years of experience providing safety solutions in a manufacturing facility. Proven experience developing and implementing safety training programs and SOPs in partnership with subject matter experts. Hands‑on experience with behavioral‑based safety programs and initiatives. Ability to work self‑sufficiently and effectively while being managed remotely. Strong proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply safety standards and best practices in an industrial or manufacturing setting. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with ISO‑related safety or quality management systems. Familiarity with OSHA 501 and OSHA 511 training or coursework. Background in safety training, environmental health and safety (EHS), or related disciplines. Experience supporting or leading safety initiatives in complex operational environments. Work Environment & Schedule On‑site at a manufacturing facility in San Jose; five days per week. Requires presence on site; use of a personal laptop equipped with MS Office. Standard full‑time workweek with 1–10 hours overtime as needed. Pay & Benefits Hourly rate $60.00–$70.00.
