Job Description

The Safety Specialist will support a manufacturing site by implementing and driving safety initiatives identified through a recent safety audit and gap analysis. This role focuses on closing safety gaps, developing and enhancing safety training and standard operating procedures, and promoting a strong culture of behavioral-based safety. The position is based onsite in San Jose, working five days per week on a 2–3 month contract, with the potential to transition to a permanent role depending on performance.

Responsibilities

• Implement action items identified in a recent safety audit and gap analysis to close safety gaps across the manufacturing facility.
• Develop, update, and maintain safety training programs and standard operating procedures in collaboration with subject matter experts.
• Provide practical safety solutions tailored to a manufacturing environment, ensuring alignment with regulatory and internal standards.
• Promote and reinforce behavioral-based safety practices to reduce incidents and encourage safe work habits.
• Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of safety programs and recommend improvements as needed.
• Support site leadership and teams with safety guidance, coaching, and best practices while working with limited onsite supervision.
• Prepare and maintain safety documentation, reports, and presentations using MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Assist in ensuring compliance with applicable safety regulations and standards, including relevant OSHA and ISO requirements where applicable.
• Participate in safety meetings, trainings, and site activities to reinforce a strong safety culture.
• Work flexible hours, including 1–10 hours of overtime per week, as needed to meet project deadlines and close identified safety gaps.

Essential Skills

• Minimum of 5 years of experience providing safety solutions in a manufacturing facility.
• Proven experience developing and implementing safety training programs and standard operating procedures in partnership with subject matter experts.
• Hands-on experience with behavioral-based safety programs and initiatives.
• Ability to work self-sufficiently and effectively while being managed remotely.
• Strong proficiency with MS Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, using these tools for reports, tracking, and presentations.
• Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply safety standards and best practices in an industrial or manufacturing setting.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience working with ISO-related safety or quality management systems.
• Familiarity with OSHA 501 and OSHA 511 training or coursework.
• Bg in safety training, environmental health and safety (EHS), or related disciplines.
• Experience supporting or leading safety initiatives in complex operational environments.

Work Environment

This role is based onsite at a manufacturing facility in San Jose and requires presence on site five days per week. The position is offered as a 2–3 month contract, with the possibility of becoming permanent based on performance and business needs. The Safety Specialist will operate in a production and industrial environment, working closely with operations teams to implement safety improvements identified through a recent safety audit and gap analysis. The role requires the use of a personally owned laptop equipped with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and the successful candidate must be comfortable using these tools extensively for documentation, analysis, and presentations. The work schedule includes a standard full-time workweek with the expectation of 1–10 hours of overtime per week, depending on project demands. The environment emphasizes a strong safety culture, collaboration with subject matter experts, and continuous improvement of safety practices across the site.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of San Jose, CA.

The pay range for this position is $60.00 - $70.00/hr.
