Housekeeping Manager - The Hay-Adams

Overview The Hay-Adams is a downtown Washington, D.C. hotel offering refined luxury and guest-centric service. The role focuses on inspecting and maintaining cleanliness and the physical condition of hotel guest rooms, meeting rooms, hallways, and public areas. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Prepare an inspection report with the status of all guest rooms at the beginning of the shift, including guest requests, out of order rooms, and show rooms for the day. Inspect guest rooms to ensure housekeeping standards are met according to hotel management standards. Inspect VIP rooms and ensure they are provided with appropriate amenities and services. Report any substandard conditions of guest rooms to the Housekeeping Director. Report damage or problems with guest rooms and room equipment using a Maintenance work order and route the work order to the Maintenance department. Evaluate room attendants on their job performance according to hotel standards and take appropriate action (retraining, etc.) when necessary to maintain high-quality performance. Inspect and evaluate the physical condition of the hotel\'s public spaces daily for cleanliness and necessary repairs. Encourage a positive attitude among employees and treat guests and fellow employees with courtesy and respect. Work to expedite tight turns when early arrivals are communicated from Front Desk or Housekeeping Management. Communicate to the Front Desk all vacant and clean rooms, completion of guest requests, and room status discrepancies. The Front Desk will provide the Supervisor with room moves, late check-outs, and additional guest requests for follow-up action. Answer the Housekeeping department\'s telephone using friendly and proper techniques. The Supervisor will assist with calling guests with special requests, information, and status of Lost & Found items. Interact with guests in a friendly, positive manner as a solution to their needs and/or problems. The Supervisor often acts as a liaison between the guest and the room cleaner. Check the hotel\'s PMS computer for information concerning room status and enter updated room status. Continual training and development of Room Attendants. Report equipment problems to the Office Coordinator. Train on daily LQA standards as set by the Director of Housekeeping. Inspect all PM rooms when completed. Assist in completion of inventories. Follow OSHA and hotel guidelines for the safe handling of all housekeeping chemicals and equipment. Respond to guest requests as needed and according to hotel policy. Communicate any special requests to the Executive and Assistant Executive Housekeeper. Follow fire safety standards and procedures for the Hotel and the Housekeeping department. Return Lost and Found items to Security Department. Perform any reasonable duties as required and directed. Report any suspicious people, activities, or hazardous conditions to the Security Department. Qualifications Education: A high school education or its equivalent preferred. License/Certification: N/A Experience: Previous Housekeeping experience required. Basic Expectations: Proactive approach to problem identification and resolutions. Detail-oriented, organized, confident, and efficient with excellent people skills and a can-do attitude. Supervisory Responsibilities: This position oversees Room and House Attendants. Language Skills: Must understand, speak, read, and write Basic English; able to read and comprehend simple instructions and present information effectively. Mathematical Skills: Ability to perform basic arithmetic in all units of measurement. Reasoning Ability: Apply common sense to carry out simple written or verbal instructions; work with minimal supervision. Physical Ability: Must be able to reach with hands and arms; frequently stand, walk, and assist with lifting or moving weights up to 25 pounds. Standards of Conduct: Uphold high ethical standards; maintain professional conduct and protect guest privacy.
