LabCorp Microbiology Clinical Laboratory Manager LabCorp is seeking a Microbiology Clinical Laboratory Manager to join our team at UAB St. Vincent’s East in Birmingham, AL. Work schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM. Job Responsibilities Direct daily operational activities of technical and non‑technical microbiology operations. Effectively manage staffing and production schedule to ensure coverage and appropriate overtime, adjusting as needed. Supervise, train, and mentor laboratory supervisors and hold responsibility for all departmental staff. Ensure diagnostics laboratory provides market leading service levels, meeting TAT metrics. Resolve client inquiries and operational issues promptly by consulting with Medical Director, Technical Director, QA, and other managers. Ensure laboratory compliance with corporate, state and federal regulatory requirements (CAP, CLIA, ISO, etc.). Assist in developing and implementing laboratory procedures and installation of equipment and methods. Recruit, hire, train, and develop qualified employees, manage performance. Maintain effective communication with leadership, clients, corporate operations and departmental staff. Conduct departmental meetings and maintain appropriate communication. Investigate deviations from procedures and implement corrective actions. Maintain technical knowledge and keep a clean and safe work environment. This position will be responsible for overseeing the operations and administration of the clinical laboratory testing for Microbiology at UAB St. Vincent’s Health System. Additionally, the Laboratory Manager will create, implement, and manage the policies, procedures and practices for optimal performance of the clinical diagnostics laboratory. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in a chemical, biological science, clinical laboratory science, or medical technology. 5 years experience as a Technologist in a clinical diagnostics laboratory in Microbiology. 2 years supervisory experience managing several direct reports. ASCP or AMT certification. Preferred Qualifications Previous experience managing a team of supervisors, managers or other people leaders. Additional Job Standards Non‑traditional degrees with applicable science credits that meet CLIA standards may satisfy education requirements. Strong working knowledge of CLIA, CAP and relevant state regulations. Understanding of laboratory operations, policies and procedures. Proven success in training and developing both technical and non‑technical employees. Ability to solve problems and provide solutions under minimal supervision. Proficient with Laboratory Information Systems and Microsoft Office. Strong communication skills – both written and verbal. High attention to detail and strong organizational skills. Comfortable making decisions in a changing environment. Ability to handle physical requirements of the position. Must pass a standardized color blindness test.
