About the Position

Job Title: Medical Surgical Registered Nurse Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Medical Surgical Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: 2 years required License: Valid nursing license Certifications: BLS required, ONS Fundamentals of Chemotherapy and Immunotherapy Administration preferred Must-Have: Experience in an inpatient setting Chemotherapy certification or willingness to obtain Call availability Description: This unit cares for and monitors patients who have received chemotherapy. The team is looking for travelers who are either already chemotherapy certified or willing to obtain the required certification. All travelers and staff will receive on-site training to ensure they feel comfortable and prepared to care for the patient population. The required certification consists of an approximately 10-hour, self-paced course followed by an open-book test. The onsite team is supportive and available to help travelers navigate the certification process. As part of the Cancer Institute, the unit provides free access to various oncology and chemotherapy education courses, many of which can be applied toward CEUs. This is a great opportunity for travelers interested in expanding their oncology experience and gaining additional skills and education. Contract staff may be required to work during catastrophic events or disasters. Daily census is 42 patients. During times of increased census, typical ratios may be higher. The patient population includes those with general medical-surgical diagnoses and cancer-related conditions. This role includes administration of chemotherapy and biotherapy via IV, PO, or injection. Patients may present with conditions such as AKI, sepsis, septic shock, pain, and diabetic foot ulcers. Contract staff may need to float to similar units or alternate medical patient care locations. Attendance at monthly staff meetings is required. Scrubs required are navy blue and white. Candidates must be open to floating per job description.
