The Workshop Manager leads the workshop team to deliver safe, efficient, and high-quality maintenance operations. This role manages daily workshop performance, ensures adherence to quality and safety standards, and upholds exceptional customer service. The Workshop Manager oversees local projects, directs people management activities, and collaborates closely with cross-functional teams such as HR, Finance, and Commercial to achieve operational, financial, and customer objectives. The position serves as the primary on-site leader, driving operational excellence, resource efficiency, continuous improvement, and maintaining full ownership of the site’s financial performance, including profit and loss accountability.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the workshop team to deliver safe, efficient, and high-quality maintenance operations.
• Oversee daily workflow, including vehicle turnaround times, productivity, repairs, breakdowns, and new work requirements.
• Manage the workshop floor and associated yard, ensuring organization, cleanliness, and compliance with operational standards.
• Conduct daily reviews of completed work to ensure all parts, labor, and descriptions are accurately recorded.
• Maintain accountability for the site’s financial performance, including ownership of the P&L, cost control, and alignment with budget targets.
• Provide regular performance and operational updates to senior leadership.
• Oversee daily servicing, repairs, maintenance planning, inspections, cleaning, and auditing to meet company standards.
• Lead local projects from planning to completion, coordinating with landlords, vendors, and internal teams.
• Obtain required customer approvals before work begins and manage the chargeable defect authorization process, including warranty repairs.
• Manage facility upgrades, infrastructure improvements, and equipment installations, ensuring compliance with operational, safety, and timeline requirements.
• Coordinate with contractors, vendors, and internal teams to minimize operational disruption during projects and upgrades.
• Monitor and ensure adherence to key performance indicators, budgets, and service standards.
• Control costs by challenging and pre-authorizing subcontractor, parts, and overtime expenses.
• Ensure all defects are repaired effectively and that accurate records are maintained.
• Ensure safe work systems and practices are followed and that toolbox talks are delivered on time.
• Manage shift patterns, scheduling, and staff availability to meet operational needs.
• Maintain overall workshop productivity by effectively managing technician workload, prioritizing tasks, and ensuring timely completion of maintenance and repair activities.
• Address performance issues through coaching, development, or formal disciplinary processes as required.
• Manage absence, sickness, and lateness in line with company policy and conduct return-to-work interviews.
• Recruit, onboard, and induct new staff while motivating and developing team members for optimal performance.
• Provide initial technical training and ongoing skills development to technicians, identifying and addressing training gaps and aligning with industry trends, including electrical training for EV ground support equipment or trucks.
• Partner with HR to resolve employee relations matters and ensure compliance with policies and employment law.
• Handle confidential information with discretion while managing operational and personnel matters.
• Use ERP systems and office software to support planning, reporting, and operational control.
• Collaborate with finance and commercial teams to align workshop operations with broader business objectives.

Basic Qualifications:

• 5+ years hands on diesel/automotive/GSE equipment maintenance experience
• 3-5 years of leadership/managerial experience
• Ability to obtain an airport issued ID badge

Work Environment

This is a fully on-site role based at a dedicated workshop facility, involving regular movement between the workshop, yard, airside areas, and an office environment. You actively supervise operations on the workshop floor, oversee equipment inspections, and interact frequently with technicians, colleagues, and customers. The role also includes office-based administrative work using computers, ERP systems, and standard office software. You must be able to obtain and maintain an airport-issued airside badge. The position requires frequent walking, standing, bending, and reaching, with occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds, along with good vision and hearing. You can expect exposure to noise, varying weather conditions, and typical industrial hazards associated with workshop and airside operations. Appropriate personal protective equipment is provided and must be worn in line with safety procedures.

This is a Permanent position based out of Boston, MA.

The pay range for this position is $95000.00 - $115000.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.

They offer three different medical plans with UHC (1 HSA plan and two traditional plans), there is cost sharing as well, for Employee Only TCR covers 80% of the monthly premium, for EE+ 1 or EE + Family TCR covers 65%.Delta is through Delta Dental And Vision is through UHCIt's a comprehensive benefits package including health, vision, and dental insurance, disability insurance, life insurance, a 401k plan, PTO, paid sickness leave, and the provision of all PPE.Also provides employees with long and short term disability and life insurance at no cost. Additional life insurance can also be purchased through Lincoln.They offer health insurance on day 1 of employment. We offer 3 different medical plans through UHC. We provide employees with life insurance and STD/LTD at no cost to them. In addition to health insurance, employees are eligible to contribute to a 401k with an employer match up to 3.5% after 30 days. Sick time is available on day 1, and vacation has a waiting period of 90 days. It will be prorated this year based on start date, but in a full year (starting Jan 1) he will have 72 hours of sick time and 120 hours of vacation.

This is a fully onsite position in Boston,MA.
