Veterinary Extern - General Practice

Overview An externship experience at an NVA hospital will give veterinary students the unique opportunity to understand the day‑to‑day operations of the practice and to gain valuable hands‑on clinical experience. Responsibilities Gather patient histories Perform physical exams Create treatment plans Identify and perform diagnostics Provide dentistry services Observe, assist, or perform surgical procedures Medical management of patients Practice communication skills with medical team, support staff, and clients Schedule and Duration Externship experiences range from two to eight weeks depending on student and hospital schedules. Eligibility All veterinary students, regardless of class year, are encouraged to participate. Veterinary students in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. Visit the stipend program for details. Location Lafayette Veterinary Care Center is a participating hospital.
