Heavy Equipment Operator

Job Description

Operate heavy equipment to grade and level trench bases and site surfaces with precision using laser systems or GPS machine control. Lay, align, and position various pipe materials, including PVC, ductile iron, and concrete, for water mains, sewer lines, and storm drains. Perform deep excavation, trenching, and shoring while ensuring compliance with OSHA regulations. Read and interpret blueprints, grade stakes, and schematics to establish proper grade and slope. Efficiently operate excavators to dig for and set pipe sections in trenches, ensuring proper alignment. Perform daily inspections, greasing, and minor maintenance on machinery to ensure optimal performance. Contribute to maintaining a clean and organized work site and provide suggestions to refine workflow and boost efficiency.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy equipment to grade and level trench bases and site surfaces using precision tools.
• Lay, align, and position pipe materials for water mains, sewer lines, and storm drains.
• Perform deep excavation, trenching, and shoring, ensuring OSHA compliance.
• Read and interpret blueprints and schematics to establish correct grade and slope.
• Operate excavators to dig for and set pipe sections in trenches.
• Conduct daily inspections and maintenance of machinery.
• Ensure work site is clean and organized at the end of each shift.
• Provide workflow suggestions to enhance efficiency.

Essential Skills

• 3-5 years of experience operating heavy equipment such as excavators, loaders, and backhoes.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds.
• Exceptional manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
• Understanding of safety guidelines.
• Ability to provide and follow directions.
• Strong decision-making skills under pressure.
• Capability to work extended hours when required.

Work Environment

The role is based on a civil jobsite, working outdoors in various weather conditions. Local travel to different worksites is required.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Summerville, SC.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $26.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
