Associate Distribution Engineer

Talascend is currently seeking an Associate Distribution Engineer for a contract opportunity with our client in Princeton, New Jersey .


Overview


Seeking associate distribution engineers for electric utility design engineering in the New Jersey area. The role involves working on projects related to utility pole data collection, electrical system design, and supporting construction activities. Candidates will engage in both fieldwork and office tasks, contributing to various phases of electrical distribution projects.


Responsibilities

• Travel around the Central New Jersey and Pittsburgh areas to collect data, field measurements, and photos of utility poles
• Document maintenance concerns on utility poles and collect data for design solutions
• Support development of design and construction work packages for electrical overhead and underground systems from 4kV through 138kV
• Perform engineering calculations, including structural analysis, conductor sags, and voltage drop
• Develop permitting documents for various authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs)
• Provide engineering support during construction and conduct post-construction reviews
• Conduct root cause analysis of outages and recommend mitigation measures using engineering principles and design

Qualifications

• Completed Bachelor of Science in an engineering discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial) from an ABET-accredited institution
• Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
• Ability to utilize a personal vehicle for occasional travel (reimbursed at IRS-approved rates)
• Willingness to perform both field and office work in outdoor environments
• Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with utility design or field engineering
• Knowledge of electrical distribution systems and safety standards
• Ability to perform structural analysis and engineering calculations
