Major product lines include a complete line of thermoplastic and metal fabricated enclosures, fiber optic cable connection and management systems, and high-performance below-grade vaults.JOB SUMMARY:The Engineer – SMC Compounding is key to the efficient operation of mixing, compounding, and molding of the department. Utilizes engineering principles to develop, maintain, and improve the chemical process. Reports to the Director - SMC.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Monitor departmental production quality to ensure that standards are adhered to and direct correction of off-standard conditionsLead team efforts for process improvements and coordinate process development and new product commercialization activities affecting SMCLead and maintain a safe operation by implementing ongoing safety initiativesEnsure operations conform to and meet EPA and plant guidelines with respect to safety, health, and environmental control and other governmental orders and permitsPlan and direct unloading of raw materials at tank farmCoordinate rail car movementIdentify and prioritize key Six Sigma/Kaizen initiatives that can maximize business and plant capabilityEnsure adherence to programs to achieve/maintain compliance with all regulatory requirements & and operating permitsSolve problems with regard to equipment and systems and participate in the design and start-up of new manufacturing processes and technologies, facilities, and equipmentLead the development of scalable, efficient manufacturing processes and control strategies for the continuous mixing operationDevelop and recommend new processes and technologies to achieve cost-effectiveness and product qualityEstablish current operating equipment specifications and improve manufacturing techniquesOversee product development, new product scale-up, process improvement, technology transfer, and process validation activitiesLead risk assessment for a range of manufacturing processes and safety improvementLead in-depth assessment of molding manufacturing processes, identifies gaps, and proposes plans for improving the capability of existing processes, and takes ownership of implementationPerform Cleaning Validation in the procedures used to clean major pieces of equipment used at the facility to manufacture, process, and package SMCPerform Process Validation of manufacturing and packaging processes of SMCWrite and execute protocol covering qualification and validation studiesPerforms other duties as may be assignedKNOWLEDGE OF:Leadership and development skillsAn understanding of quality and safety practicesABILITY TO/TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:Must understand and follow all departmental safety rulesUnderstand Safety Data Sheets (SDS)ISO sections about the positionSKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:BS Degree in Engineering, preferably Chemical EngineeringShould have strong knowledge of organic chemistry and engineeringStrong analytical, technical writing, verbal communication, and interpersonal skillsDevelopment of quality system, validation principles for product and manufacturing processes, engineering design fundamentalsBecome familiar with the regulatory environment for thermoset productsSelf-starter and comfortable with ambiguityAbility to work with internal clients and independently manage multiple projects with aggressive timelinesStrong work ethic, organizational skills and a team playerEffective communication skills with the ability to remain calm and focused under stressful situationsStrong math and computer skills are essentialAbility to lift to 50 poundsAbility to train and mentorPHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS: The physical and working conditions requirements indicated below are examples of the demands to carry out the essential job functions.Physical Demands: Standing and walking (up to continuously); bend/stoop, twist neck and torso (frequently); reach, hold, grasp, push, pull, lift/carry raw material, finished product, tools, and machinery up to 50 pounds (frequently); use seeing, hearing, and speaking.Working Conditions: Work indoors and outdoors; exposure to temperatures commensurate with outdoor seasonal temperatures. #J-18808-Ljbffr Channell Commercial Corporatio
