Purchasing Assistant

Job Description

We are seeking a detail-oriented Purchasing Assistant to support the purchasing team in a manufacturing environment. This position will assist with procuring steel, machine parts, MRO supplies, custodial supplies, office supplies, and outside processing services.

The ideal candidate is organized, comfortable managing multiple priorities, and confident communicating with vendors by phone and email. This position involves a high volume of daily phone calls and emails.

Salary: $50,000-$60,000/year
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-5:00 PM
Location: On-site

Responsibilities:

• Obtain and compare vendor pricing, lead times, and delivery information.
• Prepare and enter purchase orders and outside processing work orders.
• Manage MRO purchasing and expedite outstanding orders.
• Maintain accurate purchasing, supplier, pricing, and lead-time records.
• Coordinate receipt of steel and materials from mills and outside processors.
• Review inventory before placing material orders.
• Communicate order changes and supplier updates to internal teams.
• Maintain the approved supplier list and assist with ISO 9001 requirements.
• Handle defective material and processing claims.
• Participate in weekly production meetings and provide supplier updates.
• Provide general office support as needed.

Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• 2+ years of B2B manufacturing purchasing experience required.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Outlook.
• Strong communication and professional phone etiquette.
• Excellent organization and multitasking skills.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Team-oriented with the ability to work independently.
• Experience sourcing used machine parts through eBay or similar online marketplaces is preferred.
