Building Official

We are currently seeking a talented and experienced Building Official to join our team of professionals. Job Requirements Responsible for meeting all state and locally mandated code compliance and reporting requirements. Reviews all plans and specifications for commercial, industrial, and residential projects to ensure compliance with city, state, and federal laws and regulations. Apply knowledge of building codes, policies, and procedures to the day-to-day functions of the building department. Assists in the development and administration of department and division goals, objectives, policies and procedures. Serve as the primary liaison with our clients in this area and is responsible for ensuring that we deliver the highest level of customer service. Responsible for attending department and community meetings as required by the client. Prepares program budget and monitors work to ensure that funds and staff time are used effectively and efficiently; analyzes work flow, assignments, priorities and staffing levels. Analyzes, reviews, and prepares code amendments or supplements. Perform some plan reviews both commercial and residential. Supervise building department staff including Building Codes, Code Enforcement and Rental Housing Programs. Skills and Knowledge Be able to demonstrate extensive knowledge of local building code regulations, policies and procedures. Basic knowledge of land development processes including zoning regulations, land entitlements, and public infrastructure construction. Have solid computer skills and experience using MS Office programs. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Exercise initiative and display independent judgment. Be self-directed and self-motivated. Education, Certification, Experience State of Michigan licensed Building Official, Building Inspector, and Plans Examiner. Inspection and plan review experience for commercial and residential structures. Client and team management experience in a building department setting preferred.
