Medical Office Nurse RN-Alma

Summary Under direct supervision of the provider, will be responsible for patient assessment and care, maintaining appropriate documentation, basic knowledge of specialty and/or primary care, able to assess, plan, implement and evaluate care for patients. Responsible for coordinating care to assure high quality, compassionate patient care is provided. Maintain and oversee patients at the office locations and act as liaison with other organizations and departments. May be required to order all medical, pharmacy supplies, and office supplies to manage patient care. Assure compliance with policies/procedures of MyMichigan Health and follow OSHA guidelines, CLIA regulations, and other regulatory agencies. Coordinate with and train new employees, students and float staff as required. Provide patient education, assist with specialty care modalities, symptom management, be available for emergencies, monitor for compliance and effects of care management with high risk patients, educate on prescriptions, teach patient and family medication side effects, coordinate continuity of care with other providers. Perform general office duties such as keyboarding, filing, telephone, computer and office equipment as needed. Expectations may vary slightly depending on the practice in which you are assigned. Supervisor will clarify responsibilities. Responsibilities Triages all calls, schedules daily urgent/emergent add-ons, receives and relays test results, processes medication refills, supports, directs and refers patients for consults and/or testing, insurance pre‑certification and documentation. (20%) Provides complete patient assessment within licensure scope. Greets patients/family, performs routine pre‑examination procedures including vital signs, assessing and recording objective and subjective data concerning presenting condition. Updates records including orders reconciliation, secure messaging, medication reconciliation, allergy reactions, refills. (20%) Coordinates the care team with the provider, works with patient and families to explain the disease process and/or care management. (20%) Assists provider with examinations and procedures. (20%) Prepares and cleans patient area, sets up equipment, cleans and facilitates room set‑up after a procedure. Disposes of contaminated supplies and sterilizes instruments. (20%) Other Duties And Responsibilities Demonstrates critical thinking for patient management. Provides for age‑specific needs according to standards and policies. Maintains medical supplies to assure consistent supply levels. Performs necessary computer functions (MAPS, MCIR, Practice Management, EMR, LIS, Emageon, dictation systems, etc.). If applicable may travel to satellite clinics. Maintains coding system in the medical record. Participates in annual review for quality. Manages patient symptoms per provider. Coordinates continuity of care. Demonstrates competency in Microsoft Windows and may participate in further learning opportunities offered by MyMichigan Health. Certifications and Licensures BLS – Basic Life Support Required within 1 month of hire or transfer. RN – Registered Nurse Required. Required Education Associate’s Degree. BSN preferred. Experience, Training And Skills Working knowledge of the organization’s Infor, EMR, and Practice Management programs preferred. Knowledge of similar software. PC software knowledge: Excel and Word. Knowledge of medical office policies, practices and procedures normally acquired through three to five years in health care system or similar. Excellent interpersonal skills to communicate successfully with individuals at all levels. Physical/Mental Requirements And Typical Working Conditions Exposure to stressful situations, trauma, grief, death. Ability to wear personal protective equipment with latex or substitute. Move freely with or without an assistive device. Must perform job functions. Vision and hearing necessary. Sit/stand/walk long periods. Postural changes required. Exposure to blood borne pathogens and other infectious materials. Must follow bloodborne pathogen and TB testing. Handle multiple tasks, work independently, regular attendance, stay awake.
