General Maintenance Mechanic (Downtown Phoenix campus)

Job Overview Skilled Crafts and Trade Assistant 2 – non‑exempt, full‑time position in Facilities Management at ASU Downtown Phoenix campus. The role requires a certified trades worker to perform general maintenance, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and miscellaneous repair duties in university buildings. Responsibilities Electrical maintenance on 120 V and 277 V systems: repair lighting, ballast, switches, receptacles, and perform troubleshooting with meters and circuit tracers. Plumbing repair and maintenance of public restrooms, labs, kitchens, including flushometers, faucets, and drain clearing. Carpentry tasks: auto door closer maintenance, door hardware replacement, flooring repair, suspended ceiling and drywall touch‑ups. First response to elevator trouble calls and basic troubleshooting of elevator door problems. Use electronic work‑order system (TMA) to log and track maintenance requests. Maintain daily logs / records using computers or tablets. Interact with customers and staff and work within a team to meet maintenance priorities. Qualifications High School Diploma and at least two years of general maintenance and repair experience, or equivalent combination of experience and training. Experience in institutional, commercial or industrial maintenance environments. Experience with 120/277 V electrical maintenance, plumbing, and carpentry repair in large facilities. Experience with electronic work‑order systems (TMA) and effective communication skills. Working Environment & Schedule Monday‑Friday, 7:30 am–4:00 pm. On‑call and standby duties may be required, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Work may involve driving university vehicles, standing, bending, lifting up to 100 lb, and using ladders or single‑man lifts. Personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection and respirator will be used. Potential exposure to asbestos. Pay $21.49 per hour.
