Attorney - Legal Counsel for the Elderly

ATTORNEY – LEGAL COUNSEL FOR THE ELDERLY Our client, a major non-profit association advocating for older adults, seeks an Attorney for a 6-month, fulltime contract assignment in Washington, DC. This position will provide legal representation to District of Columbia (D.C.) tenants in need of assistance in eviction matters. The position is supervised by Senior Staff Attorneys and the Manager of the LCE Tenant Advocacy and Support practice. Responsibilities Provides timely, accurate information, legal advice, representation including in eviction and housing conditions litigation and/or non-litigation matters, referral, self-help materials, guidance, and/or other assistance to eligible clients within and related to landlord-tenant law. Engages in or supports systemic advocacy relating to areas of expertise. Conducts community outreach, education, and training events. Provides guidance and refers cases to volunteers, law students, and legal support staff, and monitors their work on assigned cases. Develops and maintains expertise in primary areas of responsibility. Collaborates with other legal services advocates, clients, and community leaders with the purpose of working in partnership on systemic issues. Qualifications Completion of a Juris Doctorate degree and member of the DC Bar with a minimum of 3 years legal experience (clinical experience and internships may count toward this requirement), preferably in a legal services setting performing landlord and tenant litigation in the District of Columbia.
