Estimator – Transmission & Substation Projects
Location: New York, NY (Hybrid)
Pay Rate: $75/hour
Duration: 12-Month Contract (Potential Extensions)
Schedule: Hybrid – Minimum 3 Days In Office
Position Summary
Seeking an experienced Estimator with utility industry experience to develop conceptual, authorization, and appropriation cost estimates for transmission, substation, and large-scale infrastructure projects. The role will support critical energy initiatives, including transmission upgrades, substation construction, offshore wind integration, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and other grid modernization projects.
Must-Have Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business, or related field.
- Minimum 5+ years of estimating experience.
- Experience developing cost estimates for:
- Transmission projects
- Substation projects
- Utility infrastructure projects
- Knowledge of electrical, mechanical, and/or civil construction estimating.
- Understanding of transmission and substation engineering, design, and construction.
- Proficiency with:
- Microsoft Office
- Microsoft Project
- Estimating software and databases
- Strong analytical, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
- Utility industry experience.
- Experience with authorization and appropriation estimates.
- Knowledge of utility capital budgeting and utility economics.
- Familiarity with utility codes, regulations, and industry standards.
- Experience supporting renewable energy projects:
- Offshore Wind
- Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)
- Transmission Infrastructure Expansion
Key Responsibilities
- Develop conceptual, authorization, and appropriation estimates.
- Prepare detailed cost estimates from engineering drawings, specifications, and scopes of work.
- Evaluate design alternatives and identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Support project development, budgeting, forecasting, and authorization activities.
- Maintain estimating databases and cost models.
- Identify project risks, assumptions, and cost drivers.
- Collaborate with engineering, construction, operations, and project management teams.
- Support utility infrastructure modernization and renewable energy integration projects.
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Utility estimator with transmission and substation experience.
- Experience estimating electrical construction projects exceeding several million dollars.
- Comfortable reviewing engineering drawings and technical documentation.
- Familiar with utility capital project lifecycle and budgeting processes.
- Able to work independently while collaborating across multiple departments.
