General Summary Statement

Provides patient care under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse.

Performs duties that support the operation of the nursing unit.

Adheres to Nursing Policies and Procedures and Organizational Goals and Objectives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Patient Care Responsibilities

1. Provides age appropriate care for the patient population served. For example, gives consideration to growth & developmental phase of life, to age related factors such as thermal regulation, nutrition, safety and prevention of infection.
2. Uses appropriate resources for patients with special needs such as language barriers, sensory problems, altered cognition, cultural and religious needs.
3. Integrates principles of infection control & infection prevention into practice.
4. Uses standard precautions and uses personal protective equipment to protect self from accidental exposure to blood borne pathogens.
5. Adheres to aseptic technique.
6. Respects dignity and confidentiality of Endoscopy patients and meets psychosocial needs.
7. Uses resources and references for reviewing policies and procedures, information needed to complete job duties.
8. Prioritizes and organizes work effectively within assigned shift.
9. Performs procedures within the scope of the Policy and Procedure Manual.
10. Performs clinical care in the pre-procedure, intra-procedure and post-procedure phases of the patient's endoscopy procedure.
11. Demonstrates competency to perform the assistant role in assigned endoscopy procedures.
12. Participates in the patient's plan of care under direction of RN.
13. Anticipates the needs of the physician and assistant during endoscopy procedures.
14. Assumes responsibility for the operation, care and handling of the endoscopy scope/any other instrumentation.
15. Performs proper cleaning, decontamination procedures when case is completed. Reports any broken or malfunctioning equipment in a timely manner.
16. Collaborates with the team to assist in attainment of cost effective service provisions to minimize waste and improper utilization of supplies and materials.
17. Identifies and utilizes for the proper function of all instrumentation.
18. Identifies appropriate instrumentation and equipment for procedures anticipating the needs of the team.
19. Checks sterile supplies for packaging, integrity and expiration dates upon introduction to the sterile field.
20. Provides for accurate care and handling of all specimens and cultures.
21. Utilizes proper body mechanics when moving patients, equipment or lifting trays.

Education Training and Experience

High School diploma or equivalent.

Graduate of Surgical technician program (Required)

Operating Room experience preferred.

Maintains CPR, TST and Education on the Go within CCH deadlines.

Licensure/Certification

CPR certification required.

Must meet specialty specific competency requirements: Aseptic Technique, Sterilization, Electrosurgical Unit & Positioning
