We're a small, fast-moving team doing hard engineering that matters, and we're looking for people who want to do the best work of their careers alongside us.About the RoleMechanical design engineers are responsible for bringing new designs to life from clean sheet concept generation through early prototype testing. Mechanical Design Engineers will work with highly interdisciplinary teams to bring H3X products to life. The engineering team operates like Skunkworks - small, highly technical, and very fast. All mechanical design engineers are given significant design freedom and will be directly responsible for flight-critical parts.What you will do:Requirements/ConceptEstablish and document requirementsConceptualize designs and product architectures that meet program requirementsPresent in Concept Design ReviewsDesign and AnalysisDesign parts and assemblies utilizing SolidWorksPerform and document mechanical analyses, including hand calculations, FEA, CFD, etc. for structural, modal, thermal, and/or fluid aspects of productsPresent in Preliminary and Critical Design ReviewsGenerate engineering drawings per ASME and GD&T standards, perform tolerance stack-upsPrototype and ManufacturingCompile complete Bills of MaterialsProvide technical supply chain support for sourcing hardwareWork with technicians and manufacturing engineers to build initial prototypesTesting and ValidationCreate a Design Validation Plan and Report (DVP&R) for new products and/or subsystemsSupport testing execution and characterization of new designsInterpret test results, identify root-cause of issues, and make design recommendations to meet the highest level of reliability and performanceIntegrationIntegrate sub-systems into full systemsSupport future production builds or complete system testsOtherIdentify workplace hazards and implement safe processesMaintain testing and production equipment where necessaryWhat we are looking for:Bachelor’s or Graduate Degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar.Hands-on experience assembling mechanical systems.6+ years of CAD software experience (SolidWorks preferred).6+ years’ experience with producing 2D part drawings & GD&T.Experience with static structural FEA (ANSYS preferred) (Familiarity with thermal and modal analysis preferred).Excellent written and verbal communicator to effectively share knowledge and build the collective mindshare of the company.Fundamentally curious and motivated by first principles.Organized and obsessive attention to detail: no room for oversight when designing flight critical systems.Action biased, results oriented mentality.Humble and open minded: willingness to accept feedback and learn, consistently improve upon yourself and the product for which you will be responsible.A high degree of emotional intelligence: ability to collaborate closely with coworkers in a respectful and empathetic manner.Why H3XJoining H3X means working on hard, meaningful problems with a skunkworks-style team that's laser-focused on building exceptional products.
