Job Summary:

This key Finance position serves as the general ledger accountant and has responsibility for the daily financial and accounting data and monthly account reconciliations to achieve the strategic goals of the organization.

Finance team members are responsible for financials, accounting, budgeting, internal controls, capital management, compliance and regulations with all legal and accounting standards. They are also in charge of timecards, PTO hours, and compensation. 

Responsibilities:

• Oversee Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, check processing, bank deposit and credit card transaction cycles
• Prepare general ledger entries, including account and bank reconciliations, and perform month end close for the accurate reporting for the on-going operations of the organization
• Assist in the preparation and provision of materials to support the annual audit, compliance (tax returns)
• Process bi-weekly payroll
• Provide financial operations support for the Cornwell Early Learning Center and other programs and departments
• Perform financial analysis and reporting as needed, i.e. grantor funding requests, departmental transactions
• Collaborate with Operations, HR and Facilities teams to support employee onboarding/offboarding
• Assist with maintaining an internal control system that safeguards assets of the organization
• Monitor adherence to controls and make recommendations to improve processes and procedures related to financial management
• Maintain files of all organization financial records and assets according to the record retention document destruction policy
• Other projects as assigned

Supervisory Responsibilities:

• None

Required Skills/Abilities:

• Thorough knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
• Familiar with accounting systems and development databases, Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central preferred
• Ability to perform highly detailed and analytical work
• Understanding of payroll systems and processes
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and expert level skills in Microsoft Excel
• Solid understanding of not-for-profit accounting principles and practices desirable
• Ability to communicate financial information in an understandable, user friendly way to people who are not specialists in financial matters
• Excellent organizational and communication skills
• Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of employees, management, and external organizations to maximize performance, creativity, problem solving, and results
• Able to maintain the highest levels of confidentiality
• Experience in a nonprofit environment is a plus
• Physical abilities common to office work environment, computer work

Education and Experience:

• Associate's degree in accounting required
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting preferred
• 3-5 years’ experience preferred

 

Physical and Environmental Requirements:

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be regularly required to stand, sit, talk, hear, reach, stoop, kneel, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer, telephone, and keyboard
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision requirements due to computer work
• Light to moderate lifting may be required
• Regular, predictable attendance is required

Work Location:

• Urban Ventures Campus based at 2924 Fourth Ave South, Minneapolis

Work hours:

• 36 hours a week
• Exempt
• Monday-Friday between 8:00am– 5:30pm, flexibility with hours

Travel:

• Occasional travel to work functions
