House Manager & Family Assistant

Job Title: House Manager & Family Assistant
Location : Annandale, VA 22003 (near Fairfax City)
Employment Type : Part-time (20-25 hours/week, 20 guaranteed)
Proposed Schedule : Monday-Thursday, 2:00 or 3:00 PM - 7:00 PM or 8:00 PM
Compensation : $30-35/hour, based on experience
Start Date : ASAP
Requirements:
  • Maintain a smoke-free environment.
  • Reliable transportation (mileage reimbursement provided) and clean driving record
  • Child and infant CPR certification (or willingness to obtain)
  • Comfortable working in a family environment with children and in a cat-friendly home.
About Our Family:

We are a lively and dynamic family with three wonderful children. As a family, we deeply value the time we spend together, and we also understand the need for an organized home to support our busy schedules. We are looking for someone who can help us manage the daily routines with ease, taking charge of household tasks like meal prep, organizing, and tidying. We'd also love someone who can proactively tackle 'get-ahead' projects, such as setting up systems for toy rotation, finding solutions when things go wrong (like when the dryer breaks), helping to declutter, or researching products to improve the home's efficiency. Additionally, we need someone who can provide after-school support by preparing snacks, checking homework, and ensuring smooth transitions to after-school activities for our kids.

We believe in a warm and kind atmosphere, where everyone's needs are met with patience and care. We want a partner in the home who can work alongside us to create a more peaceful and functional household. We both have lively and demanding careers, and we need help managing our children's schedules and supporting them with their extracurriculars.

We're looking for someone who can contribute to creating a welcoming and organized environment while supporting our growing family dynamics. Whether it's meal prepping for the week, helping with laundry, or simply ensuring everything is in order for a smooth transition from one activity to the next, you'll become an essential part of our household ecosystem.

You'll be patient, kind, and reliable, someone we can count on to make our days easier and our home more organized. We're looking for someone who is warm, positive, and enjoys working with kids. You'll need to be someone who thrives in a busy environment but can still bring calm and fun to the daily routine. We love having someone around who takes initiative but also knows how to collaborate and pitch in when needed. You'll be someone who helps keep everything running smoothly without being too rigid; flexibility is key!

We want someone who has great ideas and isn't afraid to share them but also understands the importance of keeping things adaptable to the family's ever-changing needs. You should be flexible, resourceful, and an independent problem-solver, someone who can think on their feet, whether that's finding a substitute when we're out of a recipe's ingredient or adjusting to new challenges with a positive, 'let's figure it out' attitude. Key Responsibilities:
Household Management & Organization
  • Reset and tidy rooms daily; maintain overall neatness, ensure home is prepped for cleaning services (2x monthly)
  • Load/unload dishwasher, wipe surfaces, vacuum high traffic areas
  • Maintain existing household organization systems (closets, storage, pantry, toys), and organize special projects as needed (e.g. toy storage, seasonal decorations, gear rotation, and attic)
  • Create new household organizing systems as needed (closets, storage, pantry, toys)
  • Contribute to household schedules and calendars
  • Conduct seasonal swaps (clothing, décor, bedding, etc.)
  • Prepare and coordinate donation drop offs and pick ups
  • Support packing/unpacking for seasonal transitions
  • Supervise or coordinate with service providers/vendors (e.g., handymen, cleaners, landscapers)
  • Maintain indoor plants
Meal Planning & Preparation
  • Plan and prep healthy meals/snacks for adults and kids
  • Pack lunches for adults (4x weekly)
  • Batch-cook or prep weekly meals (4x weekly)
  • Shop for groceries and meal-related items
  • Follow dietary needs and family preferences (kid-friendly)
  • Clean kitchen post-prep and manage kitchen tidiness
Inventory Management & Errands:
  • Track and restock pantry, fridge, toiletries, household supplies
  • Create and manage running household supply lists
  • Coordinate and manage household orders (Amazon, Costco, Target, etc.)
  • Run errands: grocery shopping, returns, dry cleaning, gift shopping
  • Handle package pickup, mail sorting, and deliveries
Laundry & Linen Care:
  • Wash, dry, fold, and organize family laundry (e.g., clothing, bedding, towels)
  • Keep laundry areas tidy and well-stocked with supplies
Vendor & Property Oversight
  • Supervise service providers (cleaners, contractors, landscapers)
  • Research and coordinate repairs, maintenance, and quotes (with approval)
  • Oversee screened in outdoor spaces and seasonal maintenance needs
  • Serve as primary contact for vendors or guests (occasionally)
Family Support & Child Assistance
  • Assist with school/activity pick-ups or drop-offs
  • Light supervision, playtime, or back-up childcare
  • Prep backpacks, clothing, or snacks for activities
  • Help with child-related laundry or errands
  • Occasional date night coverage
  • Be available to support when one parent has a late work night or is traveling (approximately 2-3 nights per month)
Deep Cleaning & Special Projects
  • Tackle occasional deep cleans (fridge, oven, baseboards, etc.)
  • Maintain and refresh specific zones (entryways)
Administrative & Personal Assistant Support
  • Awareness of and contributions to family calendars and reminders
  • Handle basic budgeting or receipt tracking for expenses incurred as House Manager
