Orthopedic Orthotic Fitter / Cast technician - Full Time - Jeff Hwy

This role designs and fits supportive products to provide care to patients with disabling conditions of the limbs and spine or who need assistance with activities of daily living to maintain function and remain active. The employee assesses patients, formulates and implements a treatment plan, follows up, and manages the practice. The role works closely with medical staff in the treatment and rehabilitation of injured, athletic, or physically challenged individuals. Additionally, the employee assumes responsibility for fitting patients with orthotic braces and dispensing TENS units and instructing patients on their use and care. Responsibilities Apply orthotic bracing. Dispense and provide instruction for TENS units. Manage patients. Maintain consignment closets. Maintain professional certification and education requirements and keep abreast of applicable coding and billing requirements. Adapt behavior to the specific patient population, respecting privacy, appropriately introducing the patient, adapting explanations of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions, and adjusting communication style. Perform other related duties as required. Qualifications Education High School diploma or equivalent (required). Additional degrees, business training, experience, or certifications may be combined to meet minimum qualifications (preferred). Work Experience 2 years sales experience with orthopedic products or two years related health experience, including fitting and delivering non-custom orthotic devices such as cervical orthoses not requiring more than minor modification; pressure gradient host; trusses; non-complex prefabricated spinal orthotics and prefabricated orthoses of upper and lower extremities (required). Certification Certification as a Certified Fitter of Orthotics (preferred). Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs) Computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval. Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally. Proficiency with Windows-style applications and various software packages specific to the role. Strong interpersonal skills. Thorough understanding of medical terminology. Active listening, reading, and comprehension skills for analyzing reports, charts, and correspondence. Physical and Environmental Demands Medium work. Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 10 to 25 pounds frequently, or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds constantly, to move objects. The role requires walking, standing, pushing, pulling, and routine handling of wearable orthotic devices. The incumbent works in a patient care area and may be exposed to communicable diseases and hazardous materials under the guidance of safety protocols.
