Plaintiff Personal Injury & Insurance Defense Attorney

Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled and driven attorney to handle a mixed caseload of plaintiff personal injury matters and insurance defense claims. The attorney will advocate for injured clients, evaluate insurance coverage and liability issues, manage litigation from intake through trial, and negotiate settlements with opposing counsel and insurers. The ideal candidate combines strong trial skills, strategic case management, and experience interacting with experts, adjusters, and courts to achieve the best outcomes for clients.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage a caseload of plaintiff personal injury and insurance defense matters from intake through resolution or trial.
• Conduct client intake, factual investigation, and case evaluation; develop litigation strategy and damage assessments.
• Draft and file pleadings, motions, discovery requests and responses, settlement agreements, and other court documents.
• Take and defend depositions; coordinate and prepare witnesses, experts, and retained consultants for testimony.
• Negotiate with opposing counsel and insurance adjusters to reach favorable settlements when appropriate.
• Prepare for and try cases in state and federal court, including jury selection, trial exhibits, direct and cross-examination, and post-trial briefing.
• Manage discovery, including e-discovery, subpoenas, medical records, and expert disclosures; ensure compliance with procedural rules and deadlines.
• Provide legal research and draft memoranda on complex liability, coverage, and damages issues.
• Work with medical providers, vocational specialists, and economic experts to quantify damages and build persuasive evidence.
• Supervise and mentor junior attorneys and paralegals; delegate tasks, review draft filings, and ensure quality control.
• Maintain accurate case files, billing records, and client communications; meet internal productivity and client service standards.
• Represent the firm at mediations, arbitrations, and settlement conferences; collaborate with claims professionals when handling coverage disputes.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and admission to the state bar in the hiring jurisdiction.
• 3+ years of civil litigation experience, preferably including personal injury plaintiff representation and insurance defense work.
• Proven courtroom experience with a record of taking cases to trial; strong trial advocacy and deposition skills.
• Deep knowledge of personal injury law, insurance coverage principles, tort liability, and procedural rules in state and federal courts.
• Demonstrated ability to evaluate, investigate, and develop cases, including working with medical and technical experts to quantify damages.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills; persuasive negotiator comfortable dealing with insurers and opposing counsel.
• Strong legal research and drafting abilities, with attention to detail and the capacity to manage deadlines in a high-volume practice.
• Proficiency with litigation support tools, e-discovery platforms, case management software, and Microsoft Office.
• High ethical standards, client-centered approach, and commitment to professional responsibility.
• Preferred: direct experience handling Insurance Defense matters, representing Plaintiffs in personal injury cases, and a demonstrated track record of achieving favorable settlements or verdicts.
