Job Title: Filler Operator Job Description

The Filler Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining filler equipment used in the packaging of dairy products. This role ensures that all products are accurately filled, securely sealed, and correctly labeled in accordance with strict quality and food safety standards. The Filler Operator plays a key role in maintaining production efficiency, minimizing downtime, and protecting product integrity within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

• Set up filler machines for various dairy product lines, ensuring correct configuration and materials before production starts.

• Operate and continuously monitor filler equipment to maintain consistent product flow, accurate fills, and proper sealing.

• Perform filler and filler line changeovers safely and efficiently to meet production schedules and product specifications.

• Monitor product weights, seals, caps, and overall packaging quality, making adjustments as needed to stay within established standards.

• Troubleshoot and resolve basic to moderate equipment issues to reduce downtime and maintain production efficiency.

• Collect product samples for quality assurance testing and follow established procedures to support quality control efforts.

• Ensure the correct packaging materials, such as containers, caps, and labels, are used for each product run.

• Complete cleaning and sanitation procedures according to standard operating procedures (SOPs) to maintain hygienic equipment and work areas.

• Maintain accurate and timely production records, including counts, settings, and any issues encountered during the shift.

• Communicate effectively with supervisors and other departments regarding equipment performance, production issues, and process updates.

• Follow all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), safety regulations, and food safety protocols to ensure a safe and compliant operation.

• Support overall manufacturing operations by assisting with related tasks as needed to keep the production line running smoothly.

Essential Skills

• Experience operating machinery or equipment in a production, manufacturing, or similar environment.

• Strong mechanical inclination with the ability to understand how machines function and perform basic adjustments.

• Knowledge of or ability to follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) in a food or beverage production setting.

• Basic math skills for monitoring weights, counts, and measurements during production.

• Basic computer literacy for entering production data and using equipment interfaces.

• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately and consistently.

• Comfort working in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment with repetitive tasks.

• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds safely as part of regular job duties.

• Ability to stand for long periods of time while operating and monitoring equipment.

• Attention to detail for monitoring packaging quality, labels, and product specifications.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is preferred.

• Prior experience in food production, warehouse operations, or manufacturing is a plus.

• Familiarity with machine operation in a production line environment is beneficial.

• Understanding of basic safety practices in industrial or manufacturing settings.

• Willingness to learn and follow standard operating procedures and quality guidelines.

Work Environment

The role is based in a food and beverage manufacturing plant that operates under strict Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). The facility is refrigerated due to dairy production, so temperatures are cool and the environment can be wet at times. Work is performed on and around production lines with active machinery, requiring adherence to safety and hygiene protocols at all times. Team members spend most of their shift standing, moving between equipment stations, and handling materials in a fast-paced setting. Appropriate manufacturing attire and protective gear are used to maintain cleanliness and safety in the production area.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Frederick, MD.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $19.50 - $19.50/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
