Located 25 miles northwest of downtown Chicago, Rochelle Zell Jewish High School is a private, co-educational high school. Our mission is to create a culture of academic excellence that inspires and prepares our students to think critically, achieve their full potential, and live Judaism as responsible and involved citizens in the modern world.

Rochelle Zell offers a college preparatory program that combines a rigorous general studies education with a comprehensive Jewish studies education. Small classes and individualized instruction help students find their own voice, solve problems creatively, cultivate respect for individual differences, and develop a deep dedication to learning. Rochelle Zell also offers strong athletic and fine arts programs, as well as numerous extracurricular activities and leadership opportunities. These opportunities pave the way for our students to matriculate into some of the best colleges and universities in the country and abroad.

Rochelle Zell opened its doors as Chicagoland Jewish High School (CJHS) in 2001 to 26 students and has continued to grow. Upon receiving a generous endowment from the Zell family, the school was renamed in honor of the Zell family matriarch, Rochelle Zell. Our current enrollment consists of 137 students drawn from over 20 communities in the Chicago area and beyond.

Who Were Seeking

We are seeking a compassionate, professional, and collaborative School Counselor to join our Student Services Team. The ideal candidate brings expertise and experience in social-emotional support and is committed to fostering student well-being, building strong relationships, and supporting students academic and social-emotional growth. Ideal candidates should also possess the ability to develop social-emotional programming for both students and parents and the ability to present programming to the broader community.

This is a unique opportunity to join a highly professional faculty at a school that offers a robust and rigorous dual curriculum in General and Jewish Studies. At minimum, qualified candidates must have earned a masters degree in School Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field, as well as valid state certification/licensure as a school counselor.

Duties and Responsibilities

The School Counselor reports directly to the Academic Dean. The School Counselor is responsible for carrying out the following duties and responsibilities:

1. Student Support & Counseling

• • Provide individual and group counseling focused on social-emotional development, mental health, and well-being
  • Support students in navigating personal, academic, and peer-related challenges
  • Respond to crisis situations and provide appropriate interventions and referrals
  • Maintain accurate and confidential student records in accordance with legal and ethical standards

2. Collaboration & Communication

• • Partner with faculty, administration, and student support teams to address student needs
  • Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding student progress and well-being
  • Serve as a liaison between the school and outside service providers (e.g. therapists, PHP/IOP programs, etc.)
  • Work closely with the school social worker to develop approaches and supports for student cases
  • Participate in Student Services Team meetings and contribute to school-wide initiatives

3. Program Development

• • Design and deliver developmentally appropriate counseling curriculum (e.g., advisory, workshops, SEL programming)
  • Lead and support initiatives related to student wellness, mental health, and belonging
  • Attend school programming (events, athletic competitions), including field trips, and overnight trips (Shabbatonim, Junior Trip, etc.)

Contract Dates

July 1, 2026 June 30, 2027

Compensation

$75,000 - $80,000, based on degree and experience.
