2026-27 Special Education Paraprofessional – Tier 3, Crestview Elementary School Starting Date: Aug 18, 2026 Job Description The job of Paraprofessional – Special Education Tier 3 is to assist in the supervision, physical and emotional/mental health care, and instruction of special‑needs students in the regular classroom or in a self‑contained classroom; administer medical assistance as instructed by a health‑care professional; relieve teachers of clerical tasks; model skills necessary to perform assignments; implement instructional plans; monitor student behavior during non‑classroom time; and provide information to appropriate school personnel. Essential Functions Adapt classroom activities, assignments, and/or materials under the direction of the supervising teacher to support and reinforce classroom objectives. Administer immediate first aid and medical assistance as instructed by a health‑care professional (e.g., toileting, diapering, feeding, colostomy bags, medication, diabetic management, transfer, navigating). Administer tests, homework, make‑up work, etc., to support teachers in the classroom. Communicate with supervising instructional staff, professional‑support personnel, and others to assist in evaluating progress and implementing IEP objectives. Evaluate students during the school day to take action and/or provide referral for resolution. Maintain instructional materials, equipment, technology, and files/records to ensure availability and meet mandated requirements. Monitor students individually or in groups in various settings to maintain a safe and positive learning environment. Participate in meetings and in‑service presentations to acquire and convey information related to job functions. Perform routine clerical duties (e.g., filing, typing, attendance, grading, bulletin board). Prepare research‑based lessons appropriate for individuals or small groups to implement goals for remediation of deficits. Promote good study, social, and emotional habits to improve student outcomes. Provide, under the supervision of the assigned teacher, instruction to students in a variety of individual and group activities to reinforce instructional objectives, implement IEP plans, and ensure student success. Research resources and methods, as assigned, to determine appropriate instructional approaches. Respond to emergency situations to resolve immediate safety concerns and/or direct to appropriate personnel. Respond to inquiries to solve problems, provide information, and/or referral. Serve as chief source of information for the substitute teacher or act as the substitute teacher. Other Functions Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient and effective instructional support. Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Basic math (including fractions, percentages, ratios); read manuals; write documents following prescribed formats; present information; understand complex, multi‑step written and oral instructions. Knowledge of instructional procedures, age‑appropriate student activities, safety practices, conflict resolution, mental health, emotional regulation, stages of child development/behavior. Skills including adherence to safety practices; operating office equipment and software; preparing and maintaining accurate records. Abilities such as scheduling activities; gathering and collating data; using job‑related equipment; communicating with diverse groups; maintaining confidentiality; working as part of a team; problem‑solving, including independent data interpretation. Responsibility Work under direct supervision using standardized procedures; lead, guide, and coordinate others; operate within a defined budget; utilize resources from other work units; impact organization’s services. Work Environment Physical demands include lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and fine finger dexterity. Typical activity distribution: 25% sitting, 40% walking, 35% standing. Conditions include minimal temperature variations and exposure to risk of injury or illness. Experience Job‑related experience desirable. Education High School diploma or equivalent required. Preferred: Valid Missouri Teaching Certificate; 60 college hours. Equivalency Minimum 30‑60 college hours from an accredited college or university, pass the Paraprofessional test in Missouri or complete the Missouri 20‑hour Online Substitute Training Program. Required Testing None specified. Certificates and Licenses Medication Administration (as needed) CPR/First Aid Certificate MANDT (as needed) Substitute Certificate Continuing Education / Training Maintain certificates and/or licenses.
