Job Title: Crusher Operator / CMS Operator Job Description

This contract or contract-to-hire role (3–6 months, with potential for long-term opportunity depending on workload) supports production across the Ceramic Powders & Shapes (CPS) operation. The Crusher Operator / CMS Operator works in areas such as TiB2, Primary, Powder Firing, Hot Press, and Crush/Mill/Screen, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality production. You will operate equipment, handle materials, and support continuous operations in a fast-paced industrial environment.

• Follow all Job Task Analysis (JTA) procedures to maintain a safe work environment and ensure consistent product quality.
• Perform routine powder production activities, including operating production equipment, preparing and packaging in-process and finished products, and transporting materials across CPS areas.
• Enter accurate process data and production information into relevant systems to support traceability and quality control.
• Support production needs throughout all CPS departments, including TiB2, Primary, Powder Firing, Hot Press, and Crush/Mill/Screen.
• Maintain housekeeping standards and complete all 5S responsibilities to keep work areas clean, organized, and safe.
• Assist the CMS supervisor and fellow operators with daily operations, troubleshooting, and production support tasks as needed.
• Carry out assignments and operational support tasks as directed by leadership, including the supervisor and Operations Manager.
• Safely operate machinery and equipment in accordance with operating procedures and safety guidelines.
• Handle materials and products using appropriate material-handling equipment while minimizing damage and ensuring safe movement.
• Monitor equipment performance, identify potential issues, and support troubleshooting activities to minimize downtime.
• Adhere to all safety, quality, and environmental policies and procedures within the facility.

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to work nights and weekends, including overtime, shutdowns, and flexible scheduling on a continuous shift as needed.
• Previous experience using maintenance management systems such as SAP.
• Experience working in an industrial environment.
• Working knowledge of industrial plant power distribution equipment, including transformers, load interrupting switches, switchgear, circuit breakers, and trip relays.
• Machine operation and production experience, including operating industrial machinery safely and efficiently.
• Mechanical aptitude and ability to support basic troubleshooting of equipment.
• Quality control awareness and ability to follow standard operating procedures to maintain product quality.
• Experience using material-handling equipment and safely loading materials.
• Strong communication skills using multiple forms such as email and verbal communication.
• Ability to build and maintain strong partnerships with production personnel and work effectively as part of a team.
• Self-motivation and drive to accomplish daily tasks and responsibilities with minimal supervision.
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
• Ability to lift, carry, push, and/or pull up to 25–50 lbs periodically.
• Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and reach frequently.
• Ability to use hands repetitively for grasping, handling, and manipulating parts or tools.
• Ability to work in varying environmental conditions, including heat, cold, noise, and dust.
• Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and steel-toe shoes.
• Ability to wear a respirator and self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) when required.
• Ability to climb stairs, ladders, or platforms as needed.
• Ability to visually inspect parts and equipment, including close-up work and reading gauges and screens.
• Ability to distinguish color accurately as needed for inspections or process monitoring.
• Ability to hear and respond to alarms, signals, and verbal instructions.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and maintain physical stamina.
• Ability to safely operate machinery and equipment in an industrial setting.

• Previous experience as a machine operator in a manufacturing or powder-processing environment.
• Familiarity with 5S and other workplace organization or continuous improvement practices.
• Experience working with powders, ceramics, or similar materials in a production environment.
• Comfort working within a structured safety and quality system with documented procedures.
• Interest in learning advanced industrial processes related to high-purity fused quartz and ceramic materials.

The role is based in an industrial manufacturing facility that processes powders and small raw materials for high-purity fused quartz and ceramic products. While respirators are not required for routine work because the raw material is not harmful, you must be able to wear a respirator and SCBA when needed. The environment can be hot or cold depending on the season and process conditions, and you will be exposed to noise and dust typical of a heavy industrial setting. You will spend most of your time on the production floor, standing, walking, climbing stairs or ladders, and operating machinery and material-handling equipment. Standard personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and steel-toe shoes is required, and you will follow structured safety and housekeeping practices, including 5S. The operation runs on continuous shifts, so schedules may include nights, weekends, overtime, and shutdown periods to support ongoing production demands.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Strongsville, OH.

The pay range for this position is $34.49 - $34.49/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
