Description: The Emergency Room provides care for a diverse patient population, including newborns to the elderly. Clinicians will manage a wide variety of complaints, from minor to critically ill patients. Common diagnoses include strokes and heart attacks, requiring a specialized team of nurses for trauma care. Traveling nurses may care for trauma patients post-stabilization. Proficiency in titrating various drips, including vasopressors and cardiac medications, is essential. There are a minimum of three attendings available during all shifts, with two charge nurses and a house supervisor present. Emergency Department techs assist with patient care, while nurses are responsible for drawing labs and managing equipment. Nurses in the Emergency Room must interpret monitor data and recognize life-threatening rhythms. Shifts are scheduled as 12 hours with every other weekend commitment required, along with holiday coverage based on departmental needs. Floating may occur, but it is infrequent and typically does not involve taking a full team on another unit. Dress code requires tasteful scrubs with solid-colored shirts.
