Underwriting Assistant

Job Summary: Responsible for assisting the Underwriters in effectively handling its clerical, technical, and customer support functions. Responsibilities: Respond to routine inquiries from phone, fax, mail, e-mail, and Internet from prospective and current insureds. Assist in renewal process. Enter application data for new applications into data processing system. Review of certain applications. Increase retention of existing insureds by contacting those who are in danger of being cancelled for non-payment and those who are considering cancellation to resolve outstanding issues. Add ancillary staff into database and send out appropriate documentation. Generate and send certificates of insurance and claims verification. Research required identifying information, sorting certificate forms, and mailing completed certificates. Process various policy endorsements in the core system (OASIS/ISIS) Prepare cover letters for policy endorsements such as Risk Management discount additions, ancillary staff additions, cancel/transfers, cancel/tail offer letters, follow up renewal applications letters, 60 day notice of cancellation for non-AAO memberships, etc. Review applications assigned by Manager. Obtain updated membership lists for special groups/networks. Serves as a backup to Underwriting Clerk. Special projects as assigned. Education & Experience: College degree preferred 2-5 years in an administrative capacity Required Aptitudes and Skills: Very attentive to detail Computer literate and competent on Microsoft Word and Excel Familiarity with IBM PC and Microsoft Office software and ImageRight Professional phone skills Excellent in grammar, punctuation and spelling Ability to work well independently and as part of a team Physical Requirements The physical demands described herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
