Associate Laboratory Director

Abbott seeks an Associate Laboratory Director to oversee medical and technical performance of delegated laboratory tests and serve as a subject matter expert. The role involves ensuring regulatory compliance, managing quality systems, supervising staff competency, and collaborating across functions to maintain diagnostic testing standards.
Responsibilities
- Ensure delegated tests meet medical, professional, and regulatory performance standards
- Establish and monitor test performance characteristics aligned with regulatory and medical best practices
- Oversee training programs and staff competency evaluations for accurate test execution
- Collaborate with quality teams to maintain quality control and implement corrective/preventive actions
- Support new product launches through documentation, training, and cross-functional coordination
Requirements
- MD or DO with current medical license and board certification in Anatomic/Clinical Pathology
- Or MD/DO/DPM with medical license and 1+ year laboratory training in high-complexity testing
- Or doctoral degree in chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory sciences with HHS-approved board certification
- Or doctoral degree in relevant science plus 1 year laboratory training/experience
- Experience leading teams, projects, and/or committees
- Knowledge of 42 CFR 493 regulatory requirements for clinical laboratories
