Software Engineer - Clinical Software ProductsCaris Life Sciences serves hundreds of thousands of molecular cases a year and continues to grow at double-digit rates. Its molecular, imaging, and clinical-outcomes data support software that helps ensure a cancer patient's report is right, complete, and on time.The Software Engineer - Clinical Software Products designs, implements, tests, and supports features across Caris's clinical application portfolio, owning well-scoped work end to end within the team's engineering and compliance standards. Assignments span product delivery, reliability, and incremental modernization of the production systems behind regulated clinical workflows: live cases move through them every day, and a patient is waiting on each one.Location: Irving, Texas (Dallas–Fort Worth), on-site/hybrid, minimum three days per week on campus; co-located with Caris's laboratory and clinical operations.Job ResponsibilitiesDesign, implement, and maintain features and components across assigned clinical software applications. Write well-structured, testable, and documented code suited to a regulated production environment.Deliver well-scoped work independently, from requirement refinement through release, raising risks and trade-offs early.Contribute options and trade-offs in design and architecture discussions for assigned areas.Give and receive peer code reviews, uphold code-quality standards, and surface issues that could affect correctness, performance, or compliance.Partner with product management to refine requirements, identify technical constraints, and estimate backlog items.Write and maintain automated unit, integration, and end-to-end tests as a first-class engineering responsibility.Write the technical documentation the work requires: design notes, architecture decision records, and operational runbooks that meet SOX and FDA change-control obligations.Instrument, monitor, and support production systems; participate in incident response and root-cause analysis with the team.Automate the recurring engineering and operational tasks that surface in delivery work: a repeated manual step is a candidate for scripted, reviewed automation.Support newer engineers through code review and knowledge sharing as experience grows.Work AI-first: use AI coding assistants and agentic workflows as daily practice across design, implementation, and test generation, with peer and engineering review as the quality gate.Required QualificationsBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.2+ years of professional software engineering experience building and maintaining production software systems.Experience across the full SDLC in a team environment: requirements refinement, design, implementation, testing, and release.Automated tests written and maintained for production software.Peer code review as routine practice, applying engineering standards to shared codebases.Regular use of modern AI-assisted development tooling in day-to-day engineering work.Preferred QualificationsBackground in healthcare, clinical laboratory, diagnostics, or life sciences software environments.Familiarity with agile delivery frameworks and associated tooling.Cloud-native application development and deployment patterns.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills applied to production systems.Time in environments governed by FDA requirements, SOX controls, CLIA, or HIPAA: preferred here, not required.Physical DemandsAbility to sit, stand, and work at a computer for extended periods.TrainingAll job-specific, safety, and compliance training is assigned based on the job functions associated with this employee.OtherThis role may require periodic travel to other Caris sites or partner locations.
